Maruti Suzuki has just unveiled its compact SUV XA Alpha. This compact SUV is in Concept stage and the decision to go production depends on the customer response. Maruti Suzuki says its focus is on utility vehicles with the XA Alpha and Ertiga MPV. The XA Alpha draws heavy inspiration from Indian wrestlers. 5 Maruti Suzuki Indian engineers were part of the design team, which was in collaboration with Suzuki Japan. The XA Alpha is 4 meters long, 1.6 meters tall and has a wheelbase of 2.5 meters. The concept took 9 months to be developed. More to follow. Other than the XA Alpha, the company showcased all its models and some modified versions of its existing cars. The MRWagon was present as well.

Clearly this is a concept. Not a production model. Why launch a concept?

Hope the final product looks at least 50% of the concept.

Not sure if it’s only me…but I did not like the concept design much. As others commented this design is a mashup of RR Evoque, Nissan and Chevy design elements.

Personally I liked the Ford Ecosport design…though that also has subtle hints of Audi Q3/Q5, which is not a bad thing… :-)

And also, the C pillar of the concept is badly executed. It’s gonna be claustrophobic for the rear passengers as well as rear visibility will be extremely poor.
