Mercedes-Benz have ruled out launches of cars lower than C class in India as they are not feasible in countries like India where there is no market for hatchbacks priced over Rs.15 lacs. See the simple case of Fiat 500 or Mini or Beetle. They hardly sold anything due to the price. Similarly, Audi won’t launch A1 nor will BMW the 1 series.

Parimal, yes they ruled it out two years ago. Today, things are different. Mercedes has officially confirmed the A-Class for India. BMW is considering the 1-Series and the Mini as well. Audi too might launch the A1.
