Nissan has unveiled the NV200 van in India. Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor was present at the Nissan stall at the 2012 Auto Expo. Nissan has named the 7-seater MUV, Evalia for India. The Evalia will use the same engine which does duty in the Micra, the 1.5-liter dCi diesel unit will produce close to 100 bhp of power. There will be no petrol engine on offer. The Nissan Evalia has features such as rear View Camera and Intelligent Key as standard. The Evalia will go on sale by the middle of 2012 and will have a starting price of Rs. 8 lakhs, going upto Rs. 12 lakhs for the top end variant. Ashok Leyland unveiled its own version of the NV200 van called the Stile, which will be the commercial version of the Evalia. The Evalia’s USP would be its spacious interiors and Nissan quality.
“Indeed, such is the global demand for products built here in India, that we have brought forward plans to open a second production line at our state-of-the-art Oragadam plant near Chennai. The second line will open in March, well ahead of schedule, which will ultimately create an extra 1,500 jobs at the plant – further proof of our commitment to the country,” Gilles Normand, Corporate VP, Nissan, said.
