The Peugeot 508 is being tested by an independent agency for Indian road worthiness for quite some time now. Now MotorBeam reader Prem Shetty spotted the car on the expressway. The Peugeot 508 will be launched in India only in 2014, when Peugeot’s plant in Gujarat will start manufacturing cars. However, we feel Peugeot should bring the 508 sedan as CBU next year. This will help the French automaker to create brand awareness about the company and also in setting up a dealership network.
The Peugeot 508 is a D-segment sedan which will rival the Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat in India. The car is powered by 8 engines internationally and we feel the 2.0-liter HDi FAP diesel to be the msot favourable for India. This oil burner produces 163 BHP of power and 340 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and produes 149 g/km of CO2. Offering generous passenger comfort, the 508′s USP could be its ride quality and rear seat legroom. We can expect the Puegeot 508 to be priced around Rs. 20 lakhs.
