Range Rover fans have a reason to rejoice as Tata Motors plans to launch the latest Land Rover vehicle in India by the end of the year. The Range Rover Evoque is the smallest vehicle in the Land Rover line-up and is already on sale in Europe. The SUV will soon be on sale in USA and is available in both 3-door and 5-door versions. The Range Rover Evoque is the direct competitor for the BMW X1 and the upcoming Audi Q3. In India, we will be getting the 5-door model with a 2.2-liter diesel motor, which also does duty on the Jaguar XF internationally.

With local assembly already commenced by JLR in India, we can expect the Evoque to be locally assembled as well, giving Tata Motors a chance to price the car very competitively. The 2.2-liter turbocharged motor produces 150 PS and 190 PS (depending on the state of tune) and is very fuel efficient as well. A 2.0-liter, Si4 petrol engine is available too, which uses a turbocharger and twin variable valve timing, but it is highly unlikely we will get that version in India. Expect the Evoque to be priced around Rs. 30 50 lakhs, sitting right below above the Freelander 2.

Quite a looker. I thought it would have been a concept and by the time it goes into launch, it’ll be completely different. But no…this looks so awesome, except for the wheels that look too big for its liking. It’ll eat up the Q3 and X1 in styling..in fact it can compete with the X6 in looks.

Wow, thats a good news. If it is going to be launched in India around 30 Lakhs, it is going to give tough competition to BMW X1, X3, Audi Q5.

Well for some correction time now. Happened to see the CnB on NDTV Profit and the pricing reveals i.e. upwards of 40 lacs- would put it in competition to the Q5 and the X3. The X1s and the Q3s can breathe easy.

Deepak, that is really bad. Because globally the Evoque sits below the Freelander 2. I guess we need to wait for this one.

The Freelander 2 is cheaper rather according to this link:

It will appear in showrooms costing from £27,955 for a front-wheel drive eD4 Pure five-door manual, while the most expensive version will be a four-wheel drive Si4 Dynamic Coupe three-door LUX pack automatic, costing £44,320. This means the Evoque will cost around £6,000 more than a Land Rover Freelander 2, which ranges in price from £21,995 to £36,245. Its main rivals will include the BMW X3,Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.

Are hyperlinks posting disabled?

Because its the cheapest in the Range Rover segment:

Consider this:
The Range Rover costs in upwards of $ 79,685/-
The Range Rover Sport costs in upwards of $ 60,495/-
The Range Rover Evoque costs in upwards of $ 43,995/-

The Freelander that you are talking about doesn’t come under the Range Rover brand, but rather its classified in the Land Rover brand.

Hope that clarifies :)

Deepak, yes I am aware about the Land Rover and Range Rover distinction but technically that is just done as part of branding exercise and nothing else. What is so Range Rover about Evoque and not so Range Rover of Freelander?

Thats the company’s strategy- we can talk about the product that lands up in the market. There are a numerous examples to show from an automobile manufacturer who has nearly identical products (same chassis, same engines) under different names. Happens when 2 different branded vehicles are almost identical (baring a few differences)- and similar branded are totally different.

Deepak, very rightly said. Lets see what LR do in India, hopefully they locally assemble the Evoque here.
