Nissan-Renault CEO, Mr. Carlos Ghosn will unveil the Renault compact car for India on the 29th of October 2011 on the eve of the first Indian Grand Prix. Now there is alot of confusion on which compact car Renault will launch in India. At one end, Renault denied the Twingo and Clio for India. While on the other end the Modus was spied around the Renault-Nissan facility near Chennai. Renault denied the Modus by saying that the car was on test for global markets. However, the company subsequently updated its website, which now showcases a tall boy company with covers on.

It is still uncertain which car Renault will be launching but it will be called Pulse. The Renault Pulse is based on Nissan’s V-platform and will be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine and 1.5-liter diesel engine, both from the Micra. Even the underpinnings are similar and the Pulse will be made at the same place as the Micra. With front suspension duties being handle by MacPherson struts and rear by a torsion beam, the Pulse is a Micra with a different face (similar to Fabia-Polo). However Renault has given the Pulse a new dashboard design and new steering wheel. But the majority part of it remains the same, with both cars having similar dimensions and space.

Now Renault plans to do the same blunder it has done with the Fluence and Koleos by positioning the Pulse as a premium. The French automaker plans to position the Pulse above the Micra and will offer more features to justify the pricing. Features such as climate control, keyless entry, button start, dual airbags, ABS, steering mounted audio controls, rear wiper washer and demister and alloy wheels will be standard on the top of the line Pulse. Renault is not planning to sell many units of the Pulse and is targeting sales of around 6000 cars per month. Looking at the sales of the Micra, this too seems quite optimisitic to say the least. The Renault Pulse will go on sale around January 2012, when Renault will showcase the production ready version at the Auto Expo.

That’s the most simple and awkward looking dashboard i’ve ever seen in the segment! Good luck with that Renault. Where is the clio?!!!

doesnt look premium to me…renault is going wrong way…no doubt there cars r good but pricing n silly variants like stripped down diesel of fluence is nt gonna help dem n now they r sayinng it will b priced over micra….thts just ridiculous…honestly speaking tthe car didnt attracted me…it luks awkward actually…wid superior competition like swift in diesel and honda jazz in petro segment….it seems a tough road ahead for renault….if only they would hav priced it reasonably :(
