Renault will be unveiling its compact car for India in a few minutes time. We are at the event and will provide you with updates shortly. Senior members from Renault India and Global management team are present. The Renault compact car is known as the Pulse and is based on Nissan’s V-Platform. It shares its underpinnings with the Micra and will be manufactured at Renault-Nissan facility at Orgadam, near Chennai. The Renault Pulse will be available with a diesel engine only. It will go on sale early next year and will be exported to other countries as well.
The Renault Pulse is nothing but a re-badge Micra. The Pulse looks exactly like the Micra from every angle except the Renault badges. Even the interiors are the same as the Micra. So much for Renault claiming their compact car was designed at their design house in Mumbai. The car is powered by their “reliable, powerful and efficient” 1.5L dCi engine that does duty on the Nissan Micra. Though Renault has not revealed any official technical specifications of the car, yet it is clear that there has been no modifications made to the engine power output and torque. Renault claims the car is going to return a very good fuel economy of 23 kmpl. Initially the car will be launched in the diesel only with petrol units also having a chance to be utilized depending on the market requirement. Renault will announce the prices at the 2012 Auto Expo and will start sales thereafter.
Our Impressions:
To put things very simple, the Renault Pulse is just a rebadged Nissan Micra. Only the front grille and bumper design have been changed to make it look more sporty. The touch of sportiness is a good modification done to go well along with the Renault design language. There have been no significant changes to the rear apart from the Renault and the PULSE logos. The interiors have been kept entirely the same though. This might be to keep the costs exceptionally down. Hopefully Renault does not make the mistake of pricing the Pulse above the Micra, as the Micra at its current price point does not attract many buyers.

where are the Pics??
Sandeep, we are just putting the pics up in a moment. Sorry for the delay.
Search on net there is site which shows the front pic
I like the front styling more than Micra’s. Bumpar has given a good styling treatment, sort of fluidic design of Hyundia’s, with that hexagonal shape. To me, it is looking a bit masculine from the front unlike Micra which looks super-cute.
I agree with motor-beam that Renault should not price it more than Micra, otherwise they will repeat another story of failure like Logan. Also, I don’t find Renault brand demands premium over Nissan. Though Renault tried hard to get out of that budget car maker image by launching few high end D segment sedan and SUV, but to me they don’t really clicked the way they were supposed to be.
Waiting to know how they have tuned the engine, suspension, and other components or they are just carried over from Micra.
Thanks Motorbeam for the quick update. Cheers!
Kamal, your most welcome. The other components too have been carried over from the Micra.
its just another micra with front look update n both cars i dislike especially round n round funny interiors.
looks like just another MICRA…..! Renault-Nissan…..!!!!!????? For Christ Sake…..!

Sidd, very well said. Or probably we never noticed!
looks micra with renault badging….i dont understand why two different companies r sharing the same design…there’s another car coming from skoda which looks vry similar to vento accept fabia’s front
looks like micra facelift version…mmm…renault pulse is the ‘MALE MICRA’..and the nissan micra is the ‘FEMALE MICRA’..lol…
Ha Ha Ha.. just like we have watches for his & hers, now we have cars for his & hers. It could be a next best wedding/anniversary gift. ;)
MICRA MICRA MICRA!!
HEY!! What about SKODA RAPID?? = VW VENTO, same plateform same engine. What these companies are doing, change the badge and it could be a chance.
Prashant, with the Vento and Rapid atleast the front design is different. Here everything is the same.
front is good .. worth to buy if it is 50k lesser than swift
Amit, 50k lesser than Swift is quite unlikely.
This is a renault version of Micra. Whats the need of this model when already almost similar look & with same engine is available as Micra. They are just confusing the buyers. This holds good same with Skoda Rapid & VW Vento.
