Škoda is all set to shake up the C+ segment in India with the launch of all new sedan “Rapid”. Škoda has started the manufacturing of the car and is expected to be in the market within a short span of time. Škoda Rapid will be available in both diesel and petrol. The petrol engine will be a 1598cc, 4-cylinder, 8 valve, 105 BHP units with 153 Nm torque  to boot. While the diesel engine will differentiate with a slight change with 205 Nm of torque. There would also be an option of a 6-speed automatic transmission on the petrol variant. Škoda officials believe that Rapid’s engine will be more fuel efficient than the Vento. Rapid is expected in a price range of Rs. 7-9 lakhs.

Škoda wants to tighten its grip in the Sedan segment with the launch of Rapid. Škoda Rapid is the first car from the Škoda brand which has been designed, keeping in mind the special needs of Indian customers and will be exclusively manufactured in India. Manufacturing of the all new Škoda Rapid will take place at the Chakan plant and the car measures 4.39 meters in lenght, 1.70 meters in width and 1.47 meters in height. It is one of the most awaited cars in this festive season in which we have already seen three major launches – Mahindra XUV500, Nissan Sunny and Honda Brio. Hyundai has also launched the Eon on the 13th of October. Rapid will have to face strong rivals like the Honda city, new Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, new Ford Fiesta, Fiat Linea, Tata Indigo Manza and the Nissan Sunny. Hope the consumers get an another better option to choose on.

Fiat Lover – Agreed. Qualify “linea” with “TJet”. I guess MB’s list is based on volumes..

Though i personally love FIAT, i am slightly reluctant becuse of its tie up with TATA. In fact i am in the process of changing from hatch to a sedan. Linea TJet was topping my list over Honda/VW. But that Tata tie up is holding me back. I am yet to finalise on my next car.

@ Rajan. Totally agree with you. This is like the 210546870 time i have seen on multiple forums/TV shows that they just dont want to mention Linea because of the sales. Infact motorbeam was the first website which praised Fiat and i was really excited about it that someone actually cares for a good product.

just because of the Tata tie-up dont miss this beautiful piece of machine T-jet. Honda/VW are equally good but you cant ignore the fact who is the real VFM product.

Fiatlover, sorry once again for ignoring Fiat. It was not deliberate. We are a big fan of the Linea.

Sorry! I somewhat feel Rapid is going to eat vento’s sales figures. Other manufactures has nothing to worry about rapid launch. The new josh will pull some sales but it will not last long for Skoda. This is again a fabia with a boot, nothing exciting about this model.
