Volkswagen Up! Production Version Unveiled

The production version of the Volkswagen Up! has been unveiled. The Up! will be the cheapest car in the Volkswagen line up in India as well as other important global markets and will debut early next year. It will first be launched in Europe in December, 2011 and will be available in 3 versions – take up!, move up! and high up! There will be two models based on the high up!, the up! white and the up! black. The Volkswagen Up! is powered by a new generation of 1-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engines producing 60 PS and 75 PS of power respectively. A BlueMotion Technology version will be made available as well with a Stop/Start system.

The Volkswagen Up! can be had with new safety technology system known as the City Emergency Braking. It is automatically active at speeds under 30 kmph, and it uses a laser sensor to detect the risk of an imminent collision. The Up! measure 3.54 meter in length, 1.64 meter in width and 1.48 metres in height. The wheelbase at 2.42 meters is one of the longest in the segment. The boot space is bigger then even the Swift at 251 liters and 951 liters with the rear seats folded down. This 4-seater is based on the MQB platform and uses a front-wheel drive with front engine layout. The Volkswagen Up! is expected to be priced between Rs. 3-5 lakhs and will compete with the Maruti Alto and Hyundai H800.

I agree Fas, MSIL should wake up.. I feel once the spec released this could be threat for A-star, I10, WagenR, …etc

till it reaches India, it will be stripped down version. lets see if they can really make it between 3-5 bracket ?

Fas ! why don’t you cover something called as Tata Dolphin. Is tata testing a car to be placed in between Nano and indica Vista ?
do investigate Please ……….

Vivek, yes it will only have ABS and airbags max. Tata Dolphin is not confirmed yet so its more of a speculation. But we can cover it for you.

Apart from Us consumers, there is also one winner in every case. The state govt. :( (especially in Karnataka)

i hope they launch in 4 door model , and also in 2 door model in india.

Has 2 door model dont get sold so much.

Vivek, no 4-door or 2-door. Only 5-door for India.
