Shreyans, which handles the distribution of many supercar companies in India, brought in cars from the Ferrari, Maserati and Porsche stable at the 2012 Auto Expo. From Canada was the Can-Am Spyder, manufactured by Bombardier Recreational Products. It is a three-wheeled motorcycle with single rear drive wheel, with the front wheels for steering. It is powered by a 990cc, V-Twin engine, producing 106 HP of power at 8500 RPM and 104 Nm of torque at 6250 RPM. With a weight of 317 kgs the Spyder is light but features traction control, stability and antilock brakes as standard. From Italy, there was the Ferrari California, which is powered by a 4300cc, V8, producing 460 hp of power at 7750 RPM and 485 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM. This results in a sub 4-seconds 0-100 kmph timing and a top speed of 310 kmph. [click to continue…]

Concept cars are engineer’s flight of fancy – a time when he lets loose himself and visualizes the impossible to create a masterpiece. The concept cars are designed to showcase an innovative concept, technology or design – a company displays it to prove its prowess in the automobile industry. Only few concept cars gets into to actual production but when they do arrive on the scene, elements are sure to be changed accordingly. The once in two years Auto Expo is one place for auto enthusiasts to gape at the mean machines. This year was too, expectations stood up to the hype created. Although cars take centrestage at the expo, Motorcycle manufacturers do not lag behind when it comes to aggressive marketing and launches. Auto Expo Mayhem photo

No, this is not a fish market. This picture have been taken on a designated media day as the organizers decided to call it at the Auto Expo 2012. Visible here is everything but the media. Its been 3 days since I am back home in Mumbai and have only just recovered from the insanity which was the Auto Expo 2012, with one question still lingering in my head. Has the Indian Auto Expo lost its purpose? Or the most famous occupation in our country is media. The Delhi auto expo is the most sought after event but the worst organized one I have witnessed since memory recollects. To start off, the PR agency which handed the Expo, admitted the lack of sense in the way the press conferences were arranged. The helter-skelter run of auto enthusiasts from one stall to the other at the Auto Expo is a usual sight. Considering the hysteria created by car makers, this is much expected. If the last Auto Expo 2010 had automobile lovers drooling over Kizhashis, Camaros, and of course the Beetles, this year manufacturers have upped the ante. The scene at Auto Expo 2012 is nothing short of a mela with more than 70000 people descending to Pragati Maidan each day to get a glimpse of the eye-candy automobiles that will soon set the Indian roads on fire. This year, even before the auto expo began, showstoppers were already being talked about. The Delhi Auto Expo to be held from January 5th to 11th is drawing near and all the OEMs are gearing up to showcase what they have and to woo the visitors to their stalls. This time, SUVs are going to dominate the Auto Expo with almost every manufacturer to showcase or more SUVs at their stable to attract customers. Among them some will be unveiled for the first time in the Indian market while others will be face-lifted models of the existing ones. New debuts include Ford’s baby SUV, the EcoSport, Renault’s Duster and the Audi Q3. Also Maruti Suzuki is going to showcase their concept SUV at the show while Mahindra will be displaying the Rexton and the Korando from the Mahindra-owned Ssangyong brand. [click to continue…]
