Bajaj Auto has decided to stop production of the XCD 125. The Bajaj XCD 125 was introduced in September 2007 but failed to set the sales chart on fire with sales declining to below 20,000 units a month. Bajaj decided to pull the plug to make way for the slightly bigger and more powerful XCD 135 which was launched in February this year.

Bajaj Auto Ltd. launched one of its first products of 2009, the XCD 135 DTS-Si, in January end and the deliveries began in February 2009. The bike has been welcomed by consumers and within the first fifteen days, Bajaj Auto sold more than 10,000 units of the new XCD 135 DTS-Si.

Bajaj Auto’s facility located at Pantnagar which was commissioned in 2007, will now start the manufacturing of the new XCD 135 DTS-Si to meet the increasing demand for the new bike. Bajaj Auto was languishing at the back of the mid-level or 125cc segment and none of its earlier launches managed to shake Hero Honda top standing in the respective segment. With the sales of the new bike growing by the day, Bajaj Auto might have a winner on their hands with the new XCD.

The company is trying its best to promote the bike and wants to ride the wave of freshness until it lasts. The new TV commercial of the XCD 135 DTS-Si is already on air. With aggressive marketing and nation-wide availability of the bike, Bajaj Auto is aiming to sell close to 20,000 bikes by the end of February.

The XCD 135, fittingly bridges the gap between the popular 125cc segment and the steadily developing 150cc segment, providing buyers the best of both worlds.

Bajaj Auto Ltd, has launched a 135cc version of the XCD. The bike, sporting a 10.5 brake horsepower (bhp) engine, will cost Rs.45,000 (ex-showroom). The Bajaj XCD DTS-Si 135cc engine gives out 10.2PS of peak power at 7500rpm and a maximum torque of 11.58Nm at 5000rpm. Interestingly bike gives a sporty style statement. As per news, the new XCD 135 DTS-Si has slightly longer wheelbase than older XCD.

While the bike is fully loaded and is aimed at the customers in the value segment looking for a sporty alternative, it will have many first-in-class features like a 135cc DTS-Si engine, a 5 speed gear box, auto choke, gas filled Nitrox absorbers, digital speedometer and LED tail lamps. Other significant features, include electric-start and front disc-brake. It will available in 5 colors and decal option available, which the consumer can choose from.

“We will start exporting this bike in April. Until then the capacity will be utilised for the domestic market,” Bajaj Auto managing director Rajiv Bajaj said.

Bajaj said the bike will “fill the vacuum of Bajaj Auto’s portfolio” between the low-end and high-end two wheeler markets. Bajaj Auto will launch the much-awaited Kawasaki Ninja this fiscal, while two other models, jointly developed by Bajaj and Kawasaki, will be launched next year.

Bajaj will launch the XCD Sprint DTSi on 21st January. The XCD Sprint DTSi will come with a number of features. The 135cc DTSi engine produces 10.5hp of power and is expected to give a mileage of around 60-70 kmpl. The XCD Sprint will have a 5 speed gearbox. It will sport a digital cockpit, nitrox rear suspension, low-friction front suspension, twin pilot headlamps and LED tail lamps. The bike will roll out from Bajaj’s Waluj plant and will also be produced at Pantnagar from February. It will be priced at Rs 45,000.
