Bike Tested: 2012 Hero Impulse

Price On-Road Chennai: Rs. 76,086/-

26 years is a long time by any stretch of imagination. That’s precisely how long the joint-venture between Hero and Honda had existed until the latter decided to exit the JV in 2010. A relationship that has been in existence for such a long period of time is sure to leave a major impact when it finally ends. The recently renamed Hero Moto Corp is currently in such a situation. Decades of riding in Honda’s shadow has left the company vulnerable after Honda’s exit. Hero Moto knows this too well and that is why they have entered into a strategic partnership with Erik Buell Racing of USA to get technical and design inputs and bring in next-gen high-end bikes in India. Hero MotoCorp recently launched the Impulse motorcycle in the Indian market, pricing it at Rs. 78,000/- (on-road, Mumbai). At the 2012 Auto Expo, the company not only had the Impulse on display along with a huge banner of the bike but also had a dirt track ready to showcase what the Impulse can do. Trained riders from South had come to pilot the Impulse, which is India’s first transroader. The showcase was worth seeing and the riders jumed, wheelied and everything in between to show how good the Impulse is on dirt terrain. I won’t divulge much and will let the pictures do the talking. Honda NXR150 Bros photo

Hero MotoCorp’s dirt bike has been doing the rounds all over the internet off late and now thanks to our good friends at Motoroids and Deepak Dongre (active commentator on MotorBeam), we can now confidently say which is that dirt bike. The Hero MotoCorp dirt bike is none other than the Honda NXR150 Bros, which is sold in Brazil as dual (on road and off-road) bike. It can run on both petrol and ethanol but the Indian version will only run on petrol. The NXR150 Bros uses a 149.2cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, OHC engine which produces 13.8 BHP of power and 13.6 Nm of torque. It uses Honda’s PGM-FI (fuel injection) system and has a tank capacity of 12 liters (2.3 liter reserve). [click to continue…]

Hero MotoCorp Dirt Bike photo

Hero MotoCorp had announced a dirt bike and the company is progressing on the development of the model. The highly camouflaged vehicle was spotted recently undergoing tests and is the first all new motorcycle from Hero MotoCorp. The bike features a long travel telescopic front suspension, high floating front mudguard, monoshock rear suspension, digital instrumentation, spoke wheels, tubular steel frame, exposed chain, front discs and rear drums. The ground clearance is very high and the dirt bike could feature an 150-200 cc engine which would be a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled unit. The engine would be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and will most likely be tuned for low to mid-range torque. Prices should start around Rs. 80,000/- but there is no official confirmation from the company yet.
