
Force Motors which is famous for its brands like the Tempo, Trax and Traveller are in talks with the Gujarat Govt for setting up its manufacturing facility to manufacture commercial vehicles. Force Motors has a very small presence in the commercial vehicle business and wants to increase this, which is why it is setting up the plant. The company will be acquiring close to 700 to 800 acres either in Sanand or Halol and will be investing about Rs. 2000 crores.

Force Motors has displayed the Force One SUV in 4-wheel drive guise and new variants of the Traveller at the 2012 Auto Expo. The world’s first monocoque van, the Traveller-26 made its debut, which uses a high strength, pressed steel body and is made in-house by Force Motors R&D. A luxury version of the Traveller 26 was showcased as well, which offers seating for 15 people in comfort. The Traveller Hybrid has been developed in partnership with Ricardo PLC and Locomotive Technologies of the UK. The salient features of the Traveller Hybrid is the regenerative braking and waste exhaust heat generation. Force Motors will be participating at the upcoming Auto Expo and has made plans to showcase new variants of its One SUV. The Force One which was launched a few months ago is available in only 2-wheel drive and the company had showcased the 4×4 version at the time of launch. This will be on display at the Expo as well and it is uncertain if Force Motors will announce pries. Another variant will be showcased which will feature ABS and a few more features. The company plans to concentrate on its personal vehicle division by launching new cars meant for individuals. Force Motors will also display the Viano based MPV at the Expo. This MPV will be launched in the later half of 2012 with technology being sourced from long time partner Mercedes-Benz. The commercial sector won’t be ignored and the company will launch two variants of its bus. Force Motors are on a very aggressive form now. The company recently launched the Force One SUV and now they are gearing up to launch the Viano Van soon. It is very clear now that Force Motors has developed close tie-ups with the Daimler group, using engines and gearboxes for their products like the Force One. Force Motors had recently announced its plans to launch more passenger cars. The Pune based automaker plans to foray into MPVs with the launch of a Daimler sourced machine. This machine which will be sourced from Daimler is none other than the Mercedes-Benz Viano MPV. Force Motors plans to build its MPV under license from the German automaker. The company will bring down a complete assembly line from Daimler to its plant in Pithampur. This 8-seater MPV will be launched in 2013 and should be priced around Rs. 15 lakhs. [click to continue…]

Force Motors is testing a people carrier, named Trip. We spotted this vehicle on test on Dehu road and looks like a worthy rival to the Tata Magic. We aren’t quite sure of what the Force Trip has different from the current model but slight cosmetic changes are evident. The Trp is powered by a 600cc, IDI diesel motor which produces 13 BHP of power at 3400 RPM and 37 Nm of torque at 2000 RPM. This people carrier can carry 8 people and lacks equipment. Force Motors has ambitious plans for its passenger vehicle sector. The company plans to launch the Force One SUV in a months time and is also developing a MUV to challenge the Chevrolet Tavera. The Pune based commercial vehicle manufacturer is in talks with the Madhya Pradesh Government for land. This land is being acquired for a new plant which will produce the upcoming MUV at Pithampur. Production of the new passenger vehicle from Force Motors will commence by the end of 2012. The new plant will have an installed capacity of 24,000 units initially, with production being ramped up subsequently to meet demand.

Force Motors has signed a Licence Agreement, with Daimler. Daimler has licensed its technology to Force for a Multiple Purpose Vehicle (MPV). Daimler earlier had licensed to Force technology for the 2.2 litre common rail engine which Force uses in the Traveller range of vehicles. Daimler AG and Force Motors Limited have had continuous business relationship spanning four decades. Earlier Daimler AG were shareholders in Force, and had licensed to Force (then Bajaj Tempo Limited) the Traveller range of light commercial vehicles, and the famous OM 616 engine.
