Desperate times call for desperate measures. The very same thing can be said about India’s oldest car manufacturer, Hindustan Motors. The company which went into BIFR recently is planning a come back and has outlined a new set of vehicles to be launched by March, 2012. The company believes that these new products will help them to come out of bankruptcy and post decent numbers in the very competitive Indian car market. HM has completed the development of a 0.8-tonne pickup, a 7 to 9-seater commercial passenger carrier on Ambassador platform, upgraded cargo version of the Winner and a 9-10-seater passenger carrier on LCV Winner platform at its Uttarpara plant in Hooghly, West Bengal. These vehicles will be available in both diesel and CNG models. [click to continue…]

Hindustan Motors launched two variants of the sub-3 tonner light commercial vehicle Winner XD Plus in 1.5 Diesel and 1.8 CNG versions. The HM-Shifeng Winner 1.5 Diesel in dual tone exterior colour, off-white and highway red and the 1.8 CNG variant in white and green colour will be equipped with additional features like round shape headlamps, metallic bumper, and modified upholstery.

Hindustan Motors will launch two new variants of light commercial vehicle Winner XD Plus in 1.5 Diesel and 1.8 CNG at the HM Pavilion tomorrow at the Auto Show East in Kolkata.

Hindustan Motors plans to make a comeback in the Indian auto market with an upgraded Ambassdor next year. The company’s social media department has made a Facebook page where they state “Our very own Amby is planning for a comeback in 2011.” The company has also been asking the users on Facebook various questions regarding the upcoming Amby (such as what features they would want and the likes), so if you intent to buy the car next year, you should state your requirements here.

Hindustan Motors seems to be the most optimistic car company in India undoubtedly. The company is planning to revive the Ambassador with the launch of a new version next year. The new Ambassador will feature cosmetic as well as mechanical changes. The exterior will now feature retro design and better technology offering higher comfort and value for money. However the company won’t pull the curtains on the current Ambassador which it intends to sell to the taxi segment. [click to continue…]

We know what you must be thinking reading the headlines – Why is HM bothering to even waste time and money on capacity expansion when they hardly sell anything. You are not alone as the same question struck our mind as well. Hindustan Motors plans to double manufacturing capacity at Thiruvallur plant by 2012. The Thiruvallur plant has a capacity of 12,000 units and this year the company should be reaching close to 5,000 units. Next year it should touch 10,000 units and two years down the line, capacity would be doubled to reach 24,000. The company currently has two manufacturing facilities in India, one at Thiruvallur and the other at Uttarpara in West Bengal. [click to continue…]

Hindustan Motors is in talks with foreign engine suppliers to source a new diesel engine to replace the 1.5 liter diesel for the Ambassador. The company’s 2.0 liter diesel is currently undergoing tests at the ARAI. Ambassdor’s petrol, CNG and LPG engines have been upgraded to meet the BS IV emission norms. HM expects to sell around 1,000 Ambassadors monthly during this year and is confident of making profits. We wonder if HM bosses are sleeping under a rock, they should make some drastic changes to the car before even thinking of expecting high sales.
