The new 2012 Hond CR-V model was launched today at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The new 2012 Honda CR-V features some minor changes in the front and the rear fascia, more features and more functionality and increased fuel efficiency. The CR-V is going on sale from 15th of December at the dealerships. The new CR-V is powered by the same 2.4 litre i-VTEC 4 cylinder engine producing 185 BHP and 163 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission giving power to a FWD or an AWD system. The EPA-estimated fuel economy is rated at 23/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined which is an increase of +2/+3/+2 mpg compared to the 2011 CR-V. The car also features Eco-Assist that indicates o the driver when the vehicle is being operated in an efficient style via “green” visual cues surrounding the speedometer, and a selectable ECON Mode alters operating characteristics of the vehicle to support an efficient driving style.

The 2012 Honda CR-V features 60/40 Split Rear seats and many features like Bluetooth Handsfree Link phone interface, a full-colour intelligent Multi Information Display and a multi angle rear view camera with guidelines. The new car also features SMS text messaging function which can read received texts from compatible cell phones aloud over the audio system. Another first is the introduction of a Pandora® Internet Radio interface , compatible with the Apple® iPhone®, which works with the vehicle’s audio controls and i-MID. The CR-V is being offered in 3 variants; the LX, the EX and the EX-L. The CR-V LX is equipped with air conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, i-MID, remote entry, a 160-watt, a 4-speaker audio system, Motion-Adaptive Electric Power Steering (EPS). The CR-V EX adds an upgraded six-speaker audio system, power moonroof and 17-inch alloy wheels. The CR-V EX-L adds a leather-trimmed interior, 10-way power driver’s seat, automatic dual-zone climate control, 328-watt 7-speaker audio system with XM® Radio, Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with Voice Recognition™ and FM Traffic, or a DVD Rear Entertainment System (not available with Navigation).

Apart from so many class leading features, the CR-V incorporates VSA, an electronic stability control system; an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist; side-curtain airbags; front-side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS). It also has an Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that is designed to absorb all the energy in the event of a crash.

The new, revised 2012 Honda CR-V is due to be unveiled at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show next week. But spy shots of the unmasked, actual production model of the 2012 Honda CR-V have already been revealed before Honda could take off the wraps. These spy shots were captured when Honda was conducting a local media drive in Detroit before unveiling at the Auto Show. Though the initial impressions haven’t been talked about, yet the spy shots give us a lot of details.

The 2012 Honda CR-V is going to be powered by the same 2.4-litre, 4 cylinder petrol engine that is doing duty on the current CR-V. However, this engine is going to be mated to a new, revised transmission that is going to bump up the fuel economy as well as the performance. From the exterior, there have been some mild modifications done at the front to the front grille and the front bumper. The headlights have also received a more swept back look making it more dynamic. The side stance is almost the same as the current CR-V, while there has been some changes done to the interior as well with addition of some new materials throughout the cabin. The overall form and function however is expected to remain the same.

There have been lot of rumours and scoops going around about the all CR-V which Honda Motors is supposed to come up with. Finally, the official images of the production model have come out in the open. Not surprisingly, there has not been much design changes that have been carried out in the new model. The changes are reflected in the matte finish of the plastic cladding on the body, smaller wheels and the clear graphics on the headlamps and tail lamps. Honda has quoted earlier that the upcoming SUV from it is going to be “more sophisticated and dynamic” than its older sibling.

The new model is also going to feature more interior space and versatility and a host of new features and latest technologies. Any details about the engines that will be put in have not been divulged by the company yet. However, it is expected to feature the 2.4L 4 cylinder motor with probable increase in power and fuel efficiency. The CR-V is going to make its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in mid-November and the JDM model a couple of weeks later at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.

Honda which was very protective regarding their next version of their best selling crossover CR-V had always kept the car under wraps. It was recently when Honda disclosed a Concept image of the car on which the actual car would be based. Finally the cat is out of the bag and the official production version’s images are out. First look at the 2012 Honda CR-V and it shows striking resemblance with the Volvo XC60. Sporting smaller tyres than the Concept version the crossover looks much advanced than the previous generation. There are certain minor visual additions we can spot like the protection under the front bumper. Honda officials call this car a more sophisticated and dynamic one, it is also said to have amazing interior versatility.

Under the hood we expected the same engine which did duty in the previous generation, the only difference will be that it will be more powerful and greener unit with better fuel management system. The current 2.4-liter engine will produce 175 BHP of power and 230 Nm of torque. A new 2.5-liter i-VTEC motor debuts, which produces 201 BHP of power and 240 Nm of torque. The US Market will be offered in a gasoline engine with extra BHP while the UK Market will be offered in both gasoline and diesel versions. US will be getting this crossover by the end of this year while the European version will be seen in showrooms only after fall next year. While on the other hand, Honda has no plans to get the CR-V nor the new Civic this year, nor at the 2012 Auto Expo. Even if Honda wishes to sell volumes of the CR-V in India, they will have to introduce the crossover in nothing less than a diesel engine and a third row seating will be the cherry on the top.

The Honda CR-V has been the eye candy of spy photographers off late and now Honda seems to have removed a picture of the 2012 CR-V concept, which will be the base of the all new model. The 2012 Honda CR-V will go on sale in international markets by the end of the year and we should get the new CR-V in India soon (since its a CBU). Now the new CR-V will looks exactly the same minus the smoked out headlamps and big wheels. The next generation CR-V looks like a evolution of the old model but the rear section has been modified to make it a crossover.

The 2012 Honda CR-V is also expected to get 7-seats, which would make the vehicle alot more practical for users. Power will come from the same 2.4-liter, i-VTEC motor, which produces 161 hp of power at 5800 RPM and 218 Nm of torque at 4200 RPM. The 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine might be dropped in the new CR-V, being replaced by the 2.2 i-CTDi diesel engine. This 2.2-liter engine features 16-valve, twin-cam, direct-injection, common-rail turbodiesel with twin balancer shafts and produces 150 bhp of power at 4000 RPM and 340 Nm of torque at 2000 RPM. Expect the new CR-V to cost around Rs. 30 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Honda India has launched the new CR-V which comes with a refreshed look, sporting a new two-step front grille, a re-sculpted hood and front bumper design and oval shape fog lamps. The new CR-V is 45mm longer than its predecessor and measures 4575 mm in length while maintaining the same width, height, ground clearance and head clearance. A new 10-spoke alloy wheel design replaces the previous 7-spoke alloy wheel design. The Honda CR-V will continue to be available in 2.0 L – MT 2WD and 2.4L MT /AT Real-time 4WD. The 2.4 L model now comes with a steering-mounted Cruise Control system. The Honda CR-V is sold as a CBU import and will be available on confirmed order basis.

Occupant safety has been enhanced as the new CR-V comes equipped with six airbags – Dual SRS Airbags, Side-Curtain airbags and Side Airbags with Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS). The music system features a new USB port in the upper glove compartment. The overall interior colour scheme has been brightened with chrome finish in audio controls and gear knob and coordinated colour changes in the dashboard and centre console. The centrally located LCD meter display is now blue in colour with design changes in the indicators. The vanity mirror is equipped with a light to assist visibility during darkness. The new CR-V will be available in two new colours – Opal Sage Metallic and Premium Mystic Night Pearl along with the existing range of Polished Metal, Alabaster Silver, Crystal Black Pearl and Premium White.

Honda Siel Cars India has said it will increase the prices of its sports utility vehicle CR-V by about 30% in May, 2009, besides gradually hiking the rates of other models.

“Devaluation of rupee is impacting our business, because a significant portion of our components are imported from Japan and Thailand. This impact is about 30-35% in case of CR-V,” Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) President and CEO Masahiro Takedagawa said. “We will increase the prices of CR-V in May and it will be about 30%, otherwise we will make loss,” he added.

CR-V is imported to India as a completely built unit. The company would gradually increase the prices of its other models that are manufactured in India, Takedagawa said. Asked what could be the quantum of price increase for the models like City, Accord and Civic, he said: “Due to devaluation of rupee, our (CKD) completely knock down units have been impacted by about 9-10 per cent. But the price increase may not be in that level.”
