Jaguar Land Rover is planing to set up a engine manufacturing facility in India. The British marque is planning to make lower spec engines, which are specific to the Indian market. These engines could also find their way into the hood of Tata cars, including the Safari and Aria in the distant future. The company has not given any time frame for the engine plant in India yet, but plans to go aggressive in the country with launch of locally manufactured vehicles. The Indian utility vehicle and passenger car maker, Tata Motors who owns the famous luxury car brand, Jaguar Land Rover has selected a Chinese partner to setup an assembly plant for Jaguar Land Rover in China. Mr. C Ramakrishnan, Finance Chief of Tata Motors told reporters today that the company is awaiting for the necessary regulatory approvals and refused to divulge any further details. Tata Motors is planning to expand the dealership network of Jaguar Land Rover. Currently Jaguar Land Rover has 13 dealerships in India and the company plans to open many more this year. JLR has taken the Indian market very seriously, with a huge untapped potential being apparent in the luxury car segment. This fact was reiterated when Jaguar Land Rover pulled out from the 2012 Detroit Motor Show to participate in the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Jaguar Land Rover will be displaying a its entire line-up of vehicles including the recently launched Evoque and Facelifted XF at the 2012 Auto Expo, along with two very interesting concepts. Remember JLR has skipped the 2012 Detroit Auto Show for the New Delhi Auto Expo and the company wants to make full use of this. On display will be the Land Rover DC100 and DC 100 Sport SUV, which gives us a peak into the future Defender, which will go into production in 2015. The DC100 Concepts not only looks sporty but are rugged too. Land Rover does not sell the Defender in India yet but will get the next generation Defender to our showrooms after its global debut. The British based luxury car manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover which is currently owned by Tata Motors is mulling over the option of assembling more models of their portfolio in India which includes both Jaguar and Land Rover cars. The company is aiming at a very ambitious target of around 20% share in the luxury segment market. Jaguar- Land Rover, the British automobile company owned by Tata Motors is aiming to increase its foothold more in India by locally assembling 2 of its models- the Jaguar XF and the Land Rover Evoque SUV. The company has plans to roll out the models in 12 to 18 months as quoted by a vendor. The new cars will definitely increase in the presence of these premium brands in the market. Currently the luxury segment is ruled by the 3 giants- Audi, BMW and Mercedes. The aggressive move by Jaguar Land Rover is definitely going to intensify the competition in this segment. The company currently sells the SUV Freelander 2 assembled at its factory in Chikhale, Maharasthra while the rest of its portfolio comprises completely-built units or fully-imported vehicles. Tata Motors is planning to jointly develop engines with Jaguar Land Rover. The Indian automaker plans to utilise the expertise of the British marque in engine development. Currently, the company sources engines from JLR’s previous owner, Ford. The joint development of engines will help Jaguar Land Rover to become independent and self reliant. The company plans to setup a manufacturing plant in China and also plans to increase its assembly operations in India.
