In this trying and testing times in the automotive sales market across the globe, here is another piece of disheartening news for the automobile lovers. Maybach, the Daimler owned ultra-luxury car brand is going to be discontinued after the company found it very difficult to maintain it in the face of dwindling sales volumes and lack of profitability. It was barely a decade since the company had revived the Maybach brand and made it popular with its luxury products. Instead, the parent company, Daimler now wants to shift its focus on its luxury car product, the Mercedes-Benz S Class. The company has plans to expand its top-of-the line Mercedes Benz S Class to six variations from the currently existing 3 when a new generation of the flagship model is launched in 2013. It’s considered to be one of the most prestigious events at the Cannes Film Festival: the legendary “de GRISOGONO Party” in the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc at Cap d’Antibes. Swiss jewellery manufacturer and watchmaker de GRISOGONO and German luxury car maker Maybach have unveiled a Maybach 62S Saloon studded with precious-carat diamonds. The luxurious gems are initially only included on the rear centre armrest. But de GRISOGONO and Maybach are currently looking at further options for individualising the interior with diamonds and other gemstones – on the steering wheel, shift lever or seats, for example. This unveiling of the Maybach 62S marks the launch of the joint “Maybach individualisation by de GRISOGONO” project by the two luxury manufacturers. Mercedes-Benz today celebrated its 125th anniversary and invention of the first automobile by its founders Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler by launching the “Maybach” brand in two variants – Maybach 57 S and Maybach 62. The Maybach 57 S has been priced at Rs 4.85 crore and the Maybach 62 is priced Rs 5.10 crore (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). [click to continue…]

Mercedes-Benz will launch the new 2011 Maybach in India next week. The company is celebrating 125 years of the automobile and plans to capture a significant share of the limousine market with the relaunch of Maybach. “To create only the best from the best, a vehicle that is the ultimate in wish fulfilment, with a distinctive character of the finest elegance and power,” this is how a Maybach flyer dating back to 1930 declared the company’s aim which Mercedes-Benz aims to live upto.
