Desperate times indeed call for desperate measures and the new Chrome Edition of the Mitsubishi Outlander is just that. With sales dropping faster then most people can blink, HM-Mitsubishi have launched the limited Edition Chrome Outlander which gets protective side mounldings, side airdam, rear spoiler, blue coloured floor illumination, chrome plated outside rear view mirrors and a roof mounted DVD player with screen. The Mitsubishi Outlander is not a bad vehicle at all but is powered by a petrol engine, which most people prefer to avoid. We are not certain what is stopping the Japanese automaker from launching a diesel motor in the Outlander? Perhaps, HM!

The Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a 2.4-liter MIVEC 4B12 motor which produces 170 PS of power at 6000 RPM and 226 Nm of torque at 4100 RPM. Mated to a 6-speed CVT gearbox, with paddle shifts. The Outlander costs Rs. 25.17 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). The Outlander has a top speed of 190 kmph and has 4-wheel drive system as standard.

Mitsubishi India will increase the price of the Outlander by about 2% from September, withdrawing the introductory price on the car. The introductory price for the 2.4L Bharat Stage IV petrol engined SUV was Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The company had reduced price of the 2010 Outlander by Rs 70,000/- and sold 150 units last month compared to 35-40 units of the old version.

HM-Mitsubishi Motors unveiled the Outlander 2010 for the India market. Equipped with a BS-IV compliant 2.4 MIVEC engine, some of the key enhancements in the Outlander 2010 include the jet-fighter front grill, bulged rear bumper, silver-color roof rails and HID Head Lamp with AFS function. The All Wheel Control system in the Outlander provides for the wheels to be powered individually. A centrally located dial system, located on the center console, permits free switching between 3 drive modes (2WD, 4WD Auto and 4WD Locked), depending on the driving conditions and the environment. The Outlander 2010 is priced at Rs. 19.95 lacs, (ex-showroom), all-India.

The Outlander 2010 is further enhanced with a theft protection device, alloy brakes, Adaptive Front Lighting System, a new grille with chrome accents, new front bumpers, redesigned front fenders, mirror mounted turn indicators, new door and dash trims, USB port, AUX-IN port, aluminum pedals, leather covered instrument panel, roof rails, new combination meter and auto-folding Outside Rear View Mirrors. The interiors are now refurbished beige leather and feature leather-wrapped door trims and instrument panels. The Outlander 2010 is also equipped with 650W Premium Rockford Fosgate sound systems, with 9 speakers in 7 positions. The Outlander is available in a range of new colors, including Catwalk Silver, Haute Red, Chic Black, Cool Aqua Metallic, Vogue White, Shimmering Ash, Runway Grey, Primavera Purple and Glitterati Green.

Mitsubishi India has facelifted the Outlander giving it the front of the Lancer Evo. Changes include new headlamp cluster, new front grille, reshaped bumper and hood, new roof rails and door mirrors with integrated turn lights. No changes have been made to the rear or to the 2.4-liter engine which develops 167bhp of power and a 23kgm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed CVT gearbox. As usual the company has reduced the price, this time by Rs. 60,000/- to Rs 23.58 lakh (OTR, Mumbai). Mitsubishi should seriously shut shop and head back to its headquarters in Japan.

Mitsubishi has silently upgraded the exterior and interior of the Outlander along with upgrade to the engine to meet BS IV emission norms. The 2010 Outlander gets a new grille with chrome accents, new front bumpers, redesigned front fenders, mirror mounted turn indicators, new door and dash trims, Adaptive Front Lighting System, USB port, AUX-IN port, aluminum pedals, Vanity mirro with lamp, leather covered instrument panel, roof rails, new combination meter and auto folding ORVMs.

The Mitsubishi Outlander was a very awaited car before its launch, but it really has not lived up to what was expected from it. Surely it looks cool and it does have some very good features like paddle shifts but Mitsubishi missed the point by putting a petrol engine into the Outlander. The Captiva’s diesel powerplant is what helps it sell so much.

Checkout the interiors of the Outlander, i think Mitsubishi should get full points for the well laid out interiors. Now only if Mitsubishi get the EVO X, everyone would go crazy. There is news though that the EVO X is coming, more on that later.

Mitsubishi’s latest offering the Outlander was present at the Autocar Performance Show. The Mitsubishi Outlander has the capabilities of giving the Honda CR-V strong competition but poor after sales service from HM won’t help. We would have loved if the Mitsubishi Outlander came with a diesel powerplant.

Mitsubishi Launches The Outlander

Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi Motors, launched The Mitsubishi Outlander, a technologically sophisticated and distinctive SUV. The Outlander is making a debut in India after receiving phenomenal success in North America, Japan, Australia, Canada and Western Europe, for its all-season, all-road capabilities, courtesy its unique Electronically Controlled All-Wheel Control System.

The Outlander’s All Wheel Control (AWC) is powered by 2.4 litre, 16 valve MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing and Electronic Control system) PETROL engine. The car gives a maximum power of 170 PS/6000 rpm and has a flat torque of 226 N-m/4100 rpm. Its rigid body leads to superior handling stability with aluminum roof panels that are lighter. This reduces roll and ads to a sedan-like driving stability.

The manufacturers have given much thought on the safety aspect of the Outlander. The RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body of the vehicle results in improved collision safety for all occupants, regardless of impact directions. For adventure lovers, it has INVECS-III (Intelligent and Innovative Vehicle Electronic Control System), CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) with 6-speed Paddle Shifts on steering wheel, like those fitted on legendary Lancer Evolutions’, which are ideal for sporty operations. It also hosts the Electronically Controlled 4WD (Four Wheel Drive). The drive mode selector dial can quickly change the Outlander’s drive mode from 2WD to 4WD or 4WD lock mode to master even the most demanding off-road conditions.

Outlander’s Split Tailgate with Park bench can accommodate two adults and a child’s convenient seating for enjoying the great outdoors. Its interior has been designed for maximum ease of space and convenience, the Remote folding rear seats can be tumbled from the tailgate when loading large items, at the touch of a button. The vehicle can accommodate five occupants with relative ease. Its Smart Key enables locking or unlocking of the doors and tailgate, as well as turning on or off the ignition without inserting a key.

Mitsubishi has also made the product exciting for the music lovers. The SUV comes fitted with customized speakers and 650 Watts Rockford Fosgate Music System. Use of sound blocking and vibration absorbing devices enables high quality sound reproduction in the car.

Other features include dual stage front and co-passenger air bags, automatic climate control a/c, reverse parking sensors, cruise control, multi information display system, security alarm, power and heated seat and engine immobilizer and over a dozen big and small storage spaces. The safety features and ample capacity makes Outlander a complete family car.

Taking forward the ‘One Country – One Price’ policy, HML has priced Mitsubishi Outlander at Rs. 20.20 Lacs (Ex showroom Price) across the country. The Outlander is available in seven vibrant colors – Cascade White, Silver Dew, Sunrise Yellow, River Blue, Pasture Green, Twilight Red and New Moon Black at all thirty eight dealer locations. The vehicle will be assembled at Hindustan Motors Chennai Car Plant, situated at Tiruvallur at the outskirts of Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

Mitsubishi’s Indian partner Hindustan Motors Ltd would be launching the Outlander in the Indian market by the end of this year. It will be positioned between the Pajero and Montero and will be priced around 30 lacs. Thus Mitsubishi has ensured the Outlander will be a flop with the high pricing.

Mitsubishi has been very slow and incompetent in the Indian market thanks mainly to its partner HM. The Outlander was expected to be priced between 16-20 lacs. We are not sure what strategy HM is adopting but what ever the case be, we are not impressed. The Outlander will come with a 2.4 liter petrol engine which produces 170bhp @ 6000RPM. The SUV will come with a 6 speed CVT gearbox with paddle shifts on the steering wheel. It will be competing with the CRV but the lack of diesel won’t really help matters. It also has limited off road capabilities, so those who want to go off roading, the Pajero is a better bet.
