Toyota Etios Liva

The Indian auto market has been all about the compact hatchback class and who can make a mark in that segment. The Japanese auto maker, Toyota also planned to enter into this segment and gain some market share and thus developed the Etios and the Etios Liva, the Etios Liva being the compact hatchback while the Etios being the compact sedan. However, when the models were launched, it drew some flak from the market. Personally speaking, I think Toyota gave a half-heated approach while developing the cars because a company with its technology expertise could have indeed come up with a better model. Market feedback talked about its bland, boxy design, cheap interior plastics and poor NVH levels. [click to continue…]

The Engine used in both the cars is the same 1.4 liter diesel motor which is seen doing duty on the Toyota Corolla. Toyota Etios Diesel photo

The Toyota Etios Liva was launched with much enthusiasm but after a few months competition has grown severely, leaving the Etios Liva without its USP. The Etios Liva is a good car, solely because it has good space and the Toyota badge. However, it lacks the traits of the Toyota brand. Quality is nothing to talk about, while the overall driving dynamics are just about average. Frankly, if you love driving, your better off buying a Swift, which is priced at Rs. 6.46 lakhs for the ZXi variant. Now coming to space, the Jazz trumps the Liva fair and square when it comes to interior room. The Honda Jazz X costs Rs. 7.06 lakhs and Jazz S costs Rs. 6.41 lakhs. While the Etios Liva VX costs 7.01 lakhs and the Etios V costs Rs. 6.43 lakhs (all prices on-road, Mumbai). [click to continue…]

Toyota commands a high brand value and the bookings received for the Etios Liva are just proof of the same. The company launched its first hatchback in India on Monday and has already received more than 1000 bookings for the Liva. Although many find the Etios Liva overpriced compared to the competition and some also feel that quality is lacking, the car has struck the right chord with the practical amongst us. Space on the Toyota Etios Liva is one of the best in the segment and there is plenty of room for everyone (just like the Tata Indica). [click to continue…]

Toyota will launch the Etios Liva on the 27th of June, 2011. The company currently offers the Etios in petrol only and will continue the same trend with the hatchback Liva. However, even though the Etios is doing very well with extremely good sales figure, the petrol does not cut the mustard for must. It is thus but natural for the Japanese automaker to consider a diesel motor for the Etios sedan and hatchback. The production of the diesel motor for the Toyota Etios twins is expected to begin by September, with the launch being set for the end of this year. Decent performance and fantastic fuel efficiency will be the forte of the diesel powered Etios. [click to continue…]
