2012 Vento TDI Spied photo

The Volkswagen Vento recently got new features but we still await a proper upgrade to the most popular VW car in India. We recently spotted a red Vento TDI with test plates. Now there was no cosmetic changes to the car which could help us differentiate what is new. Volkswagen could just be doing routine testing of the Vento or probably testing a remap of the existing engine. A wild speculation could be the presence of a 1.5-liter TDI unit in the above Vento. Volkswagen could use the Vento to test the upcoming Polo engine. For cost cutting and inventory management, VW could adopt the 1.5-liter engine into the Vento as well. The speculated 1.5-liter TDI engine is a reduced version of the existing 1.6-liter TDI motor. The reduction in cc is done purely to ensure the Polo classifies as a small car and the company pays lesser excise on the vehicle, thereby pricing the car aggressively.

The Vento facelift will feature smoked out headlamps (as can be seen in the picture) along with other minor upgrades to the car to bring it on par with the competition. We spotted this car in Chakan, where it was undergoing routine tests around the Volkswagen factory. Although not much can be analyzed from the picture, we can definitely conclude that the Vento facelift is just around the corner. Could Volkswagen offer projector headlamps and other gadgetry to ward off competition from the upcoming Honda City facelift? [click to continue…]

2012 Volkswagen Vento photo

The Volkswagen Vento has captured the C-segment market share very successfully. A segment, which was led by the Honda City till a few months ago now sees the domination of the Volkswagen Vento. Honda has realized that a change in strategy is vital till a diesel powered City doesn’t debut. Thus the Japanese automaker first reduced prices of the City by 6%, followed by news of a City facelift debuting this festive season. Volkswagen has realized the potential dangers and is ready to unleash the facelifted Vento this October, 2011. This will prevent the City from taking any advantage and will help Volkswagen maintain market share over the City. [click to continue…]

Volkswagen Vento 1.4 TSi photo

Volkswagen could be considering bring in its latest Twincharger technology in the Vento. The German automaker has been extensively testing Vento’s across Maharashtra, which look visually the same as all other Ventos. We even got inside the car to make out the difference but couldn’t as the interiors very unchanged. However, we did not get a peak-a-boo under the hood and are now wondering if Volkswagen is testing a new engine on the Vento. The 1.4 TSi motor can give a much needed boost in power to the Vento, whose current 1.6L petrol motor lacks the high end grunt you would expect out of a 1600 car. [click to continue…]
