Post 5 Driver’s Cars You Can Buy Today

A few years ago (circa 1997) the Indian automotive scene was a car enthusiast’s pandemonium and almost nothing existed for someone who enjoyed a fast car, except for someone who was well-healed enough to buy a high end Mercedes-Benz. The old Maruti Zen brought some respite to the humble common man, but only just. What changed the game in India was the first VTEC Honda City, Mitsubishi Lancer and Ford [...]

    Good to read this article.

I am wondering Swift (breaking issues, Linear power delivery, skinny tires all against enthu driver) is a driver's car and Polo is not listed in this list.

Today I got a chance to drive Palio 1.6 Sport Canary Yellow color and realized that FIAT launched that car times ahead.

Punter, we had a long debate between Swift and Polo. The Polo lost because it has 3-cylinder engines which lack enthusiasm. The 1.6-litre Polo is discontinued. Had it been there, it would definitely been in the list instead of the Swift. The top end ZXi/ZDi Swift don't have braking issues or skinny tyres. The diesel has strong mid and top end which makes it very engaging to drive. The petrol revvs well. Hence the Swift was chosen.

Yes this is valid point Faisal.

What about Ford Classic, it also has 1.6 Petrol engine which is powerful than Swift and driving dynamics of Classic is anytime better than Swift.

Whatever is the reason but my mind is not ready to accept that Swift is a driver's car. I dont know why.

The Fiesta beats the Classic in terms of overall driving dynamics. The Fiesta is actually the next generation Classic, so if we had put Classic, we would have had to Ford Fiesta's in the list. Infact I was skeptical of putting two Fiat's too but since both of them are so splendid, there was no option.

S Pani states that Fiat has discontinued/limited supply of the T-Jet. Is that true?

What I was saying instead of Swift we should have put Classic along with new Fiesta as it got everything what a driver is looking for especially Petrol classic.

Yes thats true and there are few Tjets (may TD or display cars) available with hefty discount.

Mr. Antonio mentioned in his speech of TFI's factory visit that Tjet Linea will be back in future.

We can get chance to see Tjet in Punto as well in future. There is lot coming from Fiat in future.

Won't the locally produced Punto Abarth have T-Jet motor in it? Abarth does not make diesel and they are launching Rs. 9 lakh Punto Abarth, produced at Ranjangaon.

Globally Tjet's standard output is 150bhp and what we have in India is detuned version of Tjet.

What Abarth will doing, they will pick up Tjet motor (150bhp) and tweak it to 165bhp and will add Abarth performance kit and tada you have Punto Abarth in your hands with price of Rs. 9 lakh

What? polo 1.6 got discontinued. I can't believe this. This was the only enthusiast's petrol hatchback which was available in the market after the palio 1.6 right? Another good product and as well as a segment went in vain.

According to me, the Maruti Suzuki Swift is the list topper for the top 5 Driver's car. The Swift provides you with hassle free Maruti ownership experience, it is affordable, it has excellent driving dynamics and looks fantastic. Many say that the manufacturer has done nothing in terms of styling on the new Swift, I think they have done a great job in retaining the Swift DNA offering a much sportier stance with improved quality. Many wouldn't have liked it if Maruti Suzuki did the same treatment on the Swift as it had done with the iconic Zen and the Zen Estilo.
