The Japanese auto maker, Mitsubishi Motors unveiled the third generation of their famous “crossover”, the all new, next generation Outlander at the ongoing 2012 Geneva International Motor Show. Compared to the previous model, the new facelift version of the Mitsubishi Outlander gets a radical change in its exterior and interior styling. Though still in the development phase, Mitsubishi has a goal to have a gradual transition of its complete family of passenger vehicles, cross-overs and SUVs to a refocused design language. The Outlander is only a small glimpse at what is coming in the future.

On the exterior, the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander gets re-styled bumpers, head lamps, and front grille. At the rear also, the bumpers and the tail lights get a make-over. The big rectangular air dam sitting right below the front grille attracts a lot of attention, so does its accentuated headlamps and chrome strip laden front grille. Overall, the design language has been kept very neat by the company. On the inside, the car gets a dose of high grade premium materials on the dashboard for better driver concentration including ergonomic steering wheel mounted controls and instrument cluster.

In Europe, Mitsubishi will be offering a 2.0 litre gasoline and a 2.2 litre diesel engine. The 2.0 litre MIVEC gasoline engine develops 150 PS of power and 195 Nm of torque and comes fitted with an all new developed valve train. The 2.2 litre diesel engine produces 150 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque with an ultra-low 14.9:1 compression ratio. Both the engines are mated to a 6 speed automatic gearbox and feature Automatic Stop-and-Go system. Features being offered include Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Mitigation system and Lane Departure Warning system. It is certain that Mitsubishi will bring this model to the Indian market soon to boost their dwindling sales volumes but will they get the diesel remain the big question?
