Maruti A-Star

maruti a star review Maruti A Star Review

Maruti’s A-Star is not only an important car for Maruti but even for Hyundai. After the launch of the Hyundai i10, Maruti hasn’t had swift sales. However the A-Star is set to change that. The Maruti A-Star has been priced very well and we won’t be suprised if it becomes the car of the year either. However its not all that good as it appears.

Surely the A-Star looks cute and uses the latest K series engine but Maruti seems to be missing the point. Well almost. They already have 4 cars in the same segment and they plan to launch the Splash as well. How many small cars will Maruti launch? They should phase out the Wagon R and Zen Estilo.

The A-Star surely is a good car and has the capabilities to take the fight to Hyundai’s i10. It looks cute and built quality is better than the Swift. The mid range  VXi comes with integrated audio system with remote. However tachometer is only present on the top model. A bit disappointing and looks like an afterthought.

Rear legroom is nothing to talk about either. But then remember this is a small car and targetted towards unmarried bachelors :P aka the youth and people who want a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th car in their garage.

Boot space is good for a small car and the interiors seem to be a control + c and control + v job from the Swift. The steering, AC vents, gear lever are a few things which are straight lift from its elder sibling. Not that its a bad thing but Grand Vitara owners will feel a bit upset about same.

The A-Star ZXi at Rs. 4.9 lacs OTR, Mumbai is not only expensive but makes me wonder why would i buy a small A-Star for that much money when i can get a Maruti Swift VXi. The VXi variant is going to be selling the most. Overall the A-Star is a car in the right direction for Maruti but it might just not be able to dethrone the i10. Test Drive review to follow, stay tuned.

Hey, wat r u saying…….. maruti astar is better than hyundai i10………. i10 is a poop, bad car…….. it wont dethrone astar………… overall astar is going to be the largest selling car in india which is small, cool, good looking car………… hyundai is a fuck company…………. they cant give a good service like maruti…….

And how u say “maruti should phase out wagonr…………. it is the most selling car in India………. wagonr is the king of the indian car market………. now i think u have understood……………

I was in search of small but powerful car .A Star is better than my expectations. We need not to shift gears frequently even in city drive as you can drive it from 20-60kmph in any of 1st to 4th gear. Highway and hill road drive is also very comfortable, thanks to the new engine with great pick-up.a star rocks..really astar beats i10

    Hi fas,

I was planning to buy A-star in end of 2009, bt den as suggested by you..i waited for 2010 model .Now looking into the legroom and bootspace of a-star, nw im planning to buy ritz(LXi) version.. but still im a bit confused.
I need your suggestions on this buddy.

    Thanx,
    Raj

  8. fas Says:

Raj, whats the confusion? The Ritz is a good car but I would seriously suggest you look at the Ford Figo. Maintenance of the Figo is cheaper too.

  9. pravesh pardeshi Says:

Raj, Ritz is better than a-star………….Astar is a good car, but there is no more space in astar……… ritz is a big car……it has more space than astar and ford figo……… its very comfortable………….. i have it’s diesel model which is exellent with DDiS engine………. Ritz LXI has a kseries engine which is known for the best quality………….. u have two option—– 1- buy ritz diesel 2—- or petrol………. both of them are exellent………….. I have driven my ritz at 160kmh………..there was no vibration in the car……….great car………. u will enjoy its features………..

  10. sarathi Says:
