Congress president Sonia Gandhi has inaugurated the much-awaited Bandra Worli sea link yesterday. The 5.6 kilometers long cable-stayed bridge has been designed to allow for speedy road travel between Bandra and Worli in the busy and traffic-ridden city of Mumbai. The link would be equipped with state-of-the-art systems for traffic monitoring, emergency support and an automated toll system.
An automatic system will identify vehicles going over the 50 kmph limit. MSRDC engineers said cameras on the link can take swift 360-degree turns and capture images of vehicles within 1.5 km. Two cameras fitted under the cable-stayed portions of the link will keep watch on the movements of boats and ships.
It is an ambitious eight-lane twin carriageway built over the Mahim Creek of Arabian Sea. The bridge rests on two towers, each 126 metres tall or equivalent to a 43-storeyed building. Spectacular fireworks enthralled the residents before the opening of the link, which will facilitate rapid conveyance from Mumbai’s west to south.

One question – One great step ahead in our nation’s infrastructure movement – why not have the President (of India) or the Prime Minister to inaugurate the bridge? Why a party president? Isn’t that playing it down or it is another way to woe the trillion dollar lady!!????

Nishant, me thinks the president and prime minister are too busy to attend to a bridge in Mumbai.

Shut it FAS – you obviously ain’t getting the point here – this bridge ain’t just a bridge – it is going to help millions daily, oh yeah maybe u aren’t aware of the enormity of the relief that this bridge is going to bring to millions on every day basis……This is the first step to ease of those hours that were spend in the “go-slow” traffic and man hour spend every single day to cut through busy traffic through Mahim …. That is going to change now – it’s huge respite for millions of people… If you are not from here never been here – you shouldn’t be talking here…. Do away with your temptations…. FAS
If the Prime-Minister ain’t free enough to be part of the joy and happiness of millions – no point having him there… He was busy accepting _ Babri Structure (farce) Demolition Report in Delhi….
Did I light a fire in you already? FAS?!!!

Nishant, my apologies if I wrote something which was misunderstood. I didn’t say the bridge is just a bridge. For the politicians, its just another bridge. But for us, its a very big thing. Going to Worli via Mahim is very time consuming. The sea link is a big achievement for us and something for us to be proud of. I have been waiting for it ever since to open and I really appreciate the efforts put into make it. If you notice I have been closely following information about the sea link.

Okay, I’m not going to comment on the politics side…I just want to say WOW! on the new bridge. This can definitely help economy and tourism if not at present, in the near future. Kudos to all of you!
