With the Commonwealth Games in sight and the increasing pollution in the capital city, a new eco freindly means of transport was launched in Delhi yesterday on the occassion of Gandhi Jayanti. Known as the “Soleckshaw”, this Solar Electric Rickshaw is a re-designed version of the ubiquitous cycle rickshaw and is equipped with a robust low-power high-torque brush less DC motor developed by Crompton Greaves.

The rickshaw can seat two passengers, excluding the driver, and has the speed limit of 15 km an hour.

These green environment friendly rickshaws are expected to ply within a three-kilometre radius from the metro station.

The advanced versions of Soleckshaw Mark-II and Mark-III with better aesthetics, ergonomics, speed and recumbent driving position are expected to be ready for launch during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
