Pete’s Solidarity Drive, starting from Kanyakumari to reach Leh, the flood ravaged province in Ladakh, was flagged off by the district collector, Dr. M. Beena at Cochin. The four member team of Pramod P. Thevannoor, Jacob joy, Oommen Philip and Jayakrishnan have set off in their Mitsubishi Pajero. The drive is envisaged to show solidarity towards the residents of Leh, who endure the continuing hardships and to bring aid to them. Clothes, medicines, essential articles and relief fund will be handed over to the Chief Executive Councilor, Leh, on 26th September, in the presence of government authorities. The drive is supported by Pete’s Automotive.

This is just another b****** drive with more personal gains rather than anything else. The traveling foursome would spend 1000s of rupees driving all the way up taking in the breathtaking sights and sounds of India, fueling their every step by collecting money in the name of donations whist on returning to their Gods Own Cunthree will claim tax benefits for Pete’s auto from the expenses incurred as part of the trip.
I once saw a Tata Winger sponsored by some church group near Ramnagaram, Karnataka on my way back from Mysore. It was a brand new Winger filled with about 10men non of whom even remotely holy looking, who were on an expedition to Leh to promote peace.
The stereo was blasting the latest Hindi pop numbers with most in the van singing in ‘High’ spirits and some shirtless.
Now thats a kewl way to extract a free road trip in the name of religion.
So considering that case, I would say Pete’s ‘tax evasion” scheme as you put it, is not that low.
P.S: If I have hurt the religion sentiments of some people, I sorry, I didn’t intend to, but such events should be brought to the public eye, esp when “holy men” are partying hard a la Nityananda.
