Nissan has got the 2011 GT-R to India for the 2012 Auto Expo. This value for money supercar is filled with technology and is can out run cars which are more than double it’s price. Powered by a 3.8-liter, VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 motor, the 2011 GT-R produces The V-spec variant has a high-gear boost option which increases the torque to 632 Nm. With a drag co-efficient of just 0.26, the GT-R is as slippery as you can get. One of the smart features of the Nissan GT-R is the launch control, which propels the car to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds. Top speed is 315 kmph ad the GT-R has a host of electronic systems to ensure high levels of grip at speed. Nissan GT-R. These 2 words can make most auto enthusiasts skip a beat, yes, the GT-R is one of the fastest road cars in the world and has proved itself on the epic Nurburgring circuit in Germany. Producing a mammoth 530 Bhp of power, the GT-R is lightning quick and at the same time can be driven by almost anyone, you need not be a race driver to drive it. Sounds like a paradox, doesn’t it? Well, thats exactly the point, the GT-R is an engineering masterpiece. I got an opportunity to check the GT-R in flesh and it was a hell of an experience.

The GT-R’s design is very Japanese and has been inspired by video games. If you go back and think of all the cars you have raced in the hundreds of video games in the past, the GT-R’s design will suddenly look very familiar. The beauty of this car is that it can be driven anywhere under any condition, you don’t always have to be on the track. The speed is electronically limited for the city roads but once you get to a track, the GPS will detect this and unleash the entire 530 horses to your disposal. Notice the air intakes on the hood. Airflow to the engine has been vastly improved in the newer version.

The huge rear spoiler provides the down force at high speeds. Huge exhausts only highlight the capability of the engine.

Under the hood is the hand made, VR38DETT 3.8 litre, Twin Turbo, V6 engine which produces a mind boggling 530 Bhp and around 600 Nm torque with a record 0 – 100 time in exactly 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 320 kmph. The All wheel Drive system continuously adjusts torque between the front and rear axle with 100 percent torque directed to the rear and 50 percent towards the front in normal conditions. Mated to this engine is a GR6 Six Speed Dual Clutch gearbox with the option to shift via Paddles. Double wishbone front and multi link rear suspension ensures superb straight line stability, handling and braking under all conditions.

The dampers can be adjusted by the driver to either Comfort, Sports (the normal setting and producing the best possible handling/ride balance) or R (high performance) settings. R mode delivers flat, hard cornering for high-speed and maximum feedback. Various sensors measure criterion’s such as speed, lateral acceleration, steering angle and engine rpm, the data is then analyzed to provide appropriate damping forces for the required situation.

Spiderman has often mentioned, with great power comes great responsibility and the GT-R is a tank when it comes to safety. Besides the regular airbags, ABS, traction control etc, the GT-R has numerous sensors all around for threat detection, one of these being pedestrian safety. We got a demo of this feature on ground. The GT-R hit a cone on the way out of a slide, the sensor detected it to be a pedestrian and the hydraulics immediately raised the back end of the hood to about 7 inches as seen in the picture. For once i was taken aback by what i saw only to realize later that this was possibly a  life saving feature. When a pedestrian gets hit, in most circumstances, the head slams against the centre of the hood. Right beneath this is the engine and the force is enough to fracture the skull. In this case however, the hood dents and absorbs the impact and the engine is still quite a distance away to cause any harm. It took a while to get things back in shape and the session was under way again. Ingenious to say the least.

Nissan had brought in their ace driver, Pedro, to give us the GT-R experience and some experience it was. Sitting in the front passenger seat, i was thrown back into my seat once he floored the pedal to the metal, not to mention the adrenaline rush was the highest i have had in a while. The GT-R was more than happy to go sideways and the amount of grip it generates is simply unbelievable. Pedro was chatting with me the entire time, for him it was a regular day at office. He would get his hands into position for the next move well in advance and it looked much easier than it really was. Happy times don’t last forever and it was my turn to step out, but i was certainly craving for more.

To sum up, the GT-R is a very impressive piece of machinery and  highly addictive too. You can take it to work, impress your girlfriend or more importantly treat yourself to a track day occasionally. It just showcases Nissan’s commitment to bring the best technology on the road and the last i heard is that Sachin switched his Ferrari for a GT-R. Man, i can still feel the adrenaline surge, it was phenomenal.

Nissan is showcasing the GT-R & Leaf along with the cars from the Indian lineup at the Auto Expo 2012. They had organized a small preview for select media in Noida.

Just today we carried the news of Sachin Tendulkar selling off his Ferrari 360 Modena and asked you which car would replace it! Well, we already got our answer. The cricket maestro has bought a red Nissan GT-R, which costs around Rs. 40 lakh (without duties). Now the latest GT-R is a rocket but selling off a Ferrari to buy a Nissan seems a bit strange. Well there are reasons to justify the replacement. Apparently the Ferrari was a eye-catcher, making it difficult for Sachin to get out on the roads. Also being really low, it was difficult driving the Ferrari around the pothole filled Mumbai roads. Tendulkar now owns four cars, the other three being a Skoda and two BMWs.

The 2012 Nissan GT-R produces all of 530PS of power at 6400 RPM and 612 Nm of torque between 3,200-6,000 RPM. That is a significant improvement over the previous model which had 485 bhp of power on tap. Add to that a 0-100 kmph time of just 3 seconds and a top speed of well over 300 kmph. The car was imported from Arabian Automobiles, who even send two engineers to help Sachin out with the numerous settings of the most complicated 4-wheel drive system in the world.

Edit (27/6/2011) – MotorBeam reader Venkatesh tells us that Sachin’s GT-R is no normal GT-R. Its the Egoist edition. The GT-R Egoist edition is a variant of offered by Nissan where buyers can customize every aspect of the car. The engine remains untouched though.

Nissan India has handed over the keys of a GT-R to Padmashri Narain Karthikeyan, the fastest Indian on wheels at a ceremony held at Madras Motor Sports Club, Irrungattukottai near Chennai. Narain Karthikeyan, an ardent and self-proclaimed fan of performance cars also drove the Nissan GT-R on the test track for some hot laps providing a visual treat of the power of this performance supercar.

The Nissan GT-R registered the World’s fastest ever laptime for a mass-produced supercar at the Nrburgring circuit, less than 7 minutes 30 seconds (clocked as on April 2009). From time-to-time, the driver can enjoy the comfortable ride given by ‘sports cruising,’ by shifting the A-range (automatic gear shifting) into Resort mode. Features include an advanced full-time four-wheel drive system that improves traction and cornering power. This four-wheel drive system uses an independent transaxle 4WD (a world first) for greater agility. There is a brand new 480 PS (353 kW) V6 twin-turbo engine that combines power with an ultra-low emission exhaust and the best fuel economy in its sector.

The 2010 Nissan GT-R has been slightly updated with more 5HP, revised dual-clutch transmission with updated launch control, a bigger fuel tank, new tires and a retuned suspension. The 2009 Nissan GT-R has posted a lap time of 7:29 seconds on the Nurburgring, faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo. But the 2010 GT-R managed to be faster by 1.44 seconds. Nissan took a Japanese specification GT-R, running on Dunlop tyres with RAYS forged alloy wheels (V-spec equipment) and recorded a blistering lap time of  7:27.56.

However the GT-R is far from being the fastest at the Ring, with the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the Dodge Viper ACR being faster by 5 full seconds. The 2010 GT-Rs lap was in dusty and sandy conditions and thus Nissan plans to have another run at the Ring to claim the record.  Looks like this is one big round of ring-a-ring-o-roses.

The much awaited Nissan GT-R SpecV has arrived. Nissan claim the SpecV offers race car levels of performance in a street legal vehicle. The body mods consist of a carbon fiber rear spoiler, grille and brake ducts, along with an exclusive Ultimate Black Opal paint job. On the inside, the front seats are set of carbon fiber Recaro buckets, while the rear seats have lost a few pounds. Carbon fiber also adorns the center storage box, instrument panel and replaces the majority of the interior trim.

The only substantive engine modification is a new high gear boost controller that increases the amount of compressed oxygen entering the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 to deliver more torque in mid- to high-range revs. A titanium-coated exhaust and a reworked suspension is fitted underneath, and carbon ceramic brakes hide behind 20-inch NISMO wheels reduce unsprung mass and improve braking performance.

Sales begin in Japan at seven pre-selected dealers, with pricing set at 15,750,000 yen. There’s no word on whether the GT-R SpecV will be available elsewhere.

Hennessey has release two first performance upgrade packages for the Nissan GT-R R35. The first one known as the Godzilla 600 gives the Nissan GT-R 600-hp with a maximum torque of 570 lb-ft. The second package, the Godzilla 700, gives the GT-R 700-hp with a peak torque of 630 lb-ft.

Power doesn’t come cheap and there is no exception for the GT-R. The Godzilla 600 package costs $14,500 (installed) and the Godzilla 700 package costs $24,500. We only wonder whether the transmission will be able to take this much power.

There were some awesome supercars at the Autocar Performance Show. From the Ariel Atom to the most hyped car on planet earth, the Nissan GTR R35. The Audi TT did not attract much attention in front of the playstation influenced GTR. And you can hardly make out the Bentley Continental GT is modified by Mansory.
