After a delay of almost 5 months, Bajaj Auto has finally launched the much awaited 2009 edition Pulsar 220. The Bajaj Pulsar 220 is priced at Rs. 70,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) making it Rs. 15,000/- cheaper than the old FI version bike and very attractive infront of the Yamaha FZ16 and TVS Apache 180. The new Pulsar 220 churns out maximum power of 21.04@8500rpm and maximum torque of 19.12@7500 rpm. Bajaj have optimized the gear ratios and claim a top speed of 144 kmph, making the new Pulsar 220 the fastest Indian bike. The bike does 0-100kmph in 11.30 seconds. “We have been continuously evolving our Pulsar range to provide our customers state-of-the-art product with unmatched performance and technology. The new 2009 edition Pulsar 220 has further raised the bar in the performance segment by becoming India’s fastest production bike,” Bajaj Auto Ltd CEO (two-wheelers) S Sridhar said.

The 2009 Pulsar 220 DTSi is much more than just a non-fuel-injected version of the DTS-Fi. Visually, the bike has an all-black treatment with black forks, swingarm, alloys and engine paint. Other visual tit-bits are chiseled 3d graphics, a redesigned console background and revised clip-on handlebars.

The changes are starker in the innards of the bike. The new engine shares the same dimensions as the 220 DTS-Fi, but now breathes through a 32mm venturi carburetor with an auto-choke feature. Power output has been pegged at 21.04PS @ 8500rpm, and though the torque remains the same at 19.12Nm, it now comes in at a higher 8000rpm, signaling the revvy nature of the motor with ample torque to go with it. The bike is available in 4 colours. Read more about Pulsar 220 DTSi performance here.
