Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has become aggressive after the exit from Hero Honda. The company plans to become number one in the two wheeler market by the end of this decade and plans to launch more gearless scooters. Honda is currently the market leader in the gearless scooter segment, selling almost every second scooter in the country. Production at the company’s second plant at Tapukara in Rajasthan will commence by July. 2011. The company currently has 1200 dealerships (only 400 will serve the Honda CBR250R), which it plans to expand by 100 more by the end next year.

“We are the market leader in gearless scooters. With demand for gearless scooters to grow in the domestic market, we are upbeat on this segment. Going forward, HMSI sees 40% business from scooters and 60% from motorcycles,” HMSI’s President and CEO, Shinji Aoyama said. “Demand for gearless scooters will be more in Tier II and III cities. We will continue to manufacture more scooters to meet demand in the domestic market,” he added.
