Its official. Jaguar Land Rover will commence local assembly at their Pune plant by the end of the month. Tata Motors will inaugurate the facility on the 27th of May, 2011. This will be the first assembly unit of the British manufacturer in India and represents a significant milestone for the company. The first car to be assembled locally would be the Land Rover Freelander 2. This would help the company revise its price downward and position the Freelander more aggressively infront of its German rivals. The Freelander 2 currently costs Rs. 52 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) for the top of the line HSE variant.
