The Range Rover Evoque is the smallest JLR vehicle in sale and yet is the most desirable one. Now BBC UK TopGear Magazine has give the Evoque the 2011 Car of the year (COTY) award and also named it top in the SUV category (picked by Jeremy Clarkson). But it was not easy for the Evoque who had to compete with cars like Ferrari FF and Mclaren MP4 12C. TopGear took the Evoque on an African adventure to celebrate the award, putting it through some rough terrain en route. Other then various judges, the three prominent ones were TopGear TV presenters themselves.

“There have been many great cars launched over the last 12 months. But these are just one-trick ponies. The Evoque is more than that. It’s a pony that is also a racehorse, a shire horse, a dray horse, a show jumper and an easy rosette-winner in the dressage competition. It’s brilliant. And it’s the Top Gear Car of the Year,” Jeremy Clarkson, said.

The Range Rover Evoque was launched in India last month and is available in both Coupe and 5-door versions. The Coupe is available with a petrol engine only while the 5-door is available with a diesel heart. Tata Motors plans to locally assemble the Evoque at JLR’s Chakan faclity next year, which will help the company reduce the prices. Currently, the Evoque range starts at Rs. 44.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It is available in three variants – Pure, Prestige and Dynamic.
