The US based largest auto manufacturer of the world, General Motors has seen a significantly good innings in the recent times under the Chevrolet brand in the Indian auto sector. When General Motors globally was facing tough times and rapidly declining sales, it was having a relatively good innings in the Indian market. However, Chevrolet has never got a good hold of the premium hatchback segment till date in the Indian market. Chevrolet had launched the Aveo U-VA earlier but the product wasn’t well received by the consumers and it was no match for its strong contenders like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo and others.

Now, the company was plans to re-enter into the same segment with a brand new product. Its called the Chevrolet Sail hatchback. The Chevrolet Sail has been caught testing few times by spy shot photographers on Indian roads confirming its possible launch in the Indian market soon. The Chinese partner of General Motors, SAIC has also played a role in the development of the Chevrolet Sail so we expect many of its components to be of the Chinese make. This is a strategy adopted by the company that will help to keep product development and components costs low thus making it an aggressive proposition price wise. However, the down side to it would be the product reliability and Chevrolet should really take this into consideration to make it a successful product for the Indian market.

The vehicle also gets a diesel powertrain will be similar to the Fiat Multi-jet engine and Chevrolet might plonk in the diesel engine currently used in its Beat.
