For those who are waiting for the diesel powered Tata Nano, this news is not the best for you as the company plans to bring the oil burner only after they bring a more powerful petrol engine in the world’s cheapest car. Currently the Tata Nano is powered by a twin-cylinder engine and the company plans to launch a 3-cylinder petrol engine in the Nano which brought India on the world map for developing the most affordable car in the world. The 3-cylinder Nano will produce around 60-80 BHP of power, which is almost double than what the current Nano produces, giving a spring in the Nano’s steps.

Currently the company is also working on a power steering system for the Tata Nano, which will only be commercially launched sometime in 2013. The diesel engined Nano is on-test but is being delayed to ensure the petrol Nano’s uptrend in sales continue. Tata Motors is looking at stabilizing production before launching new variants of the car. The company is betting big on word of mouth publicity to increase awareness about the brand.
