2012 Honda Dream Yuga side

Honda plans to start exports of the Dream Yuga from November this year. The company will look at the neighboring markets such as Sri Lanka and Nepal for the Yuga exports to begin with. Currently the company has two manufacturing facilities, at Manaesar in Haryana and Alwar in Rajasthan, with a combined capacity of 2.8 million scooters and bikes per annum. Its third plant at Narsapuram in Karnataka with a 1.2 million capacity is expected to be up and running from the second half of the next year. With increase in production units and expansion of factories, the company is ambitious of reaching out more to both domestic and export markets.

Yesterday, Honda launched the Dream Yuga in Mumbai. The entry-level commuter is priced at Rs. 48,028/- (ex-showroom Mumbai) and is powered by a 110-cc engine. Offered in five colours and three variants, Honda is betting big on the Dream Yuga. Given that the sloppy economic conditions have adversely affected domestic vehicle sales, the company is still positive about its product and expects to increase market share by 3%. Currently Honda has 15% market share in the 2-wheeler market with majority of those numbers coming from its scooters. Will Honda be able to capture the entry level market is something which only time will tell.
