2012 VW Polo Update

Volkswagen will soon be launch a minor update in the Polo. The German automaker is seeing increased competition and is incorporating minor changes to the Volkswagen Polo. This is a stop gap method till the next generation Polo arrives in 2014. The Volkswagen Polo is already a sharp looking car and the next generation is going to be even sharper. While details about the upcoming Polo update remain sketchy, a few of our readers have spotted the car. So what is new?

Volkswagen will be giving the Polo minor changes on the aesthetic front. The vehicle will have smoked headlights and new alloy wheels. The comfortline variant will also get alloy wheels (probably as an option). On the inside, the Polo will get a new audio system, along with steering mounted audio controls. These things are confirmed and we have already snapped the interiors of the updated Polo more than a year back.

Some of our readers who have spotted the car feel that Volkswagen will give the Polo 4-cylinder engines. They inform us that the Polo they spotted did not sound rough or noisy, like the current 3-cylinder Polo. The possibility of offering 4-cylinder engines on the Polo can’t be ruled out but we will take this with a pinch of salt till more credible information surfaces.

Skoda has seen a sharp decline in sales of the Fabia. The company has hence decided to increase localization of the vehicle to reduce input costs, thereby passing it onto the buyers. Could Volkswagen also decrease the price of the Polo marginally to aggressively compete with the new Maruti Suzuki Swift and fluidic Hyundai i20?
