General Motors will launch the Sail U-VA in the Indian market on 2nd November, 2012. The Sail U-VA will replace the Aveo U-VA and will be launched simultaneously in Delhi, Mumbai and China. The company will follow up with a sedan version of the Sail in December. At the media drive, GM officials told us that the Chevrolet Sail U-VA will be priced very competitively and they are looking at good volumes from the car. A lot of testing and effort has gone in the Sail hatchback to adapt it to Indian conditions.

Chevrolet Sail U-VA Pricing

Pricing is crucial in a market like India, where people immediately take to value for money products. GM remains silent on the pricing of the Sail U-VA but lets try to speculate how the vehicle will be priced. The Chevrolet Beat starts at Rs. 4.46 lakhs for the base petrol, while the top end Beat petrol (LT Option) is priced at Rs. 5.88 lakhs. The base petrol Sail U-VA should start at around Rs. 4.6 lakhs, with the top end petrol LT variant should be priced at around Rs. 6.0 lakhs. The Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi is priced at Rs. 6.76 lakhs, while the Ford Figo Titanium petrol is priced at Rs. 5.99 lakhs (all prices on-road, Mumbai).

The diesel Chevrolet Beat (PS) starts at Rs. 5.49 lakhs, while the top end Beat diesel (LT option) costs Rs. 6.96 lakhs. The base variant (LS) of the diesel Sail U-VA should be priced at Rs. 6.0 lakhs, while the top-end Sail U-VA diesel (LT) should retail at around Rs. 7.3 lakhs. The Swift ZDi is priced at Rs. 8.12 lakhs, while the Ford Figo Titanium diesel is priced at Rs. 7.27 lakhs (all prices on-road, Mumbai). This way the Sail U-VA will undercut the Swift’s pricing by a considerable amount, while at the same time GM can prevent cannibalization with the Beat.
