2013 Skoda Octavia Front Overlook

Uncamouflaged images of the 2013 Skoda Octavia have surfaced on the internet. These images were shot while it was undergoing some testing at the highways of Poland and Czechoslovakia. From the first look, no one can mistake it for not being a Skoda car. The front as well as the rear have typical Skoda design elements. The front-grille, the chrome portion above it, and the rear headlamps all speak Skoda. But again it’s not the same Octavia as the predecessor. Although its speculated to have its design derived from the VisionD Concept, it has got similar elements of the Skoda MissionL design study which was earlier featured in the European version of the Skoda Rapid at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

There were small elevated camouflaged patches at the headlamps, fog-lamps, front-grille and at the C-column so as to not unveil the exact design at these places. It is quite misleading to decipher the exact design and the camouflage seems to be doing its job very well. The third generation Skoda Octavia will be longer, wider and with increased wheelbase so as to not clash with the Rapid. The front facia of the car looks sleeker than ever with a new front-grille and sleeker headlights. The air dam is plain rectangular in shape with the fog-lamps slotted at an angle on either side. The side profile, especially the rear half is undoubtedly Octavia. The boot has got a two-step cut and the bottom half is further bent inside. The bend seems to be another misleading trick. The interiors are definitely bound to get a refreshed look.

The 2013 Skoda Octavia is the first Skoda car to be underpinned to Volkswagen’s MQB platform. Also new is the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine with Volkswagen’s latest cylinder deactivation technology. The 1.4-litre TSI will pump out 138 BHP while a 1.8-litre TSI petrol is also on offer which will give an output of 158 BHP. The diesel engine will be the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TDI engine. The new Skoda Octavia will be officially revealed online next month followed by the launch at the Geneva Motor Show later in March 2013. The estate version and the RS version will also be launched later which will sport a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine.
