Toyota has announced a voluntary recall of the Corolla Altis and Camry in India, post similar announcements by Toyota globally. The Japanese automaker will inspect power window master switch and change them if required. Some units may stop working or become notchy and the company blaims the timely wear and tear for the same. Toyota will call or mail owners of the vehicles affected by this recall. The company will start fixing issues from November.
The vehicles affected by this recall include Corolla Altis manufactured between 30th July 2008 to 31st December 2008 and the previous generation Camry manufactured between 1st September 2006 to 31st July 2008. The Corolla is brought in via the CKD route while the affected Camry units were brought through the CBU route. The voluntary campaign will see around 8700 vehicles getting their power window master switch being changed free of cost.
Toyota dealers will take close to an hour to inspect and change the power wind master switch (if needed). Customers who feel their car is part of the recall can call their nearest Toyota dealer for further information. This is the first recall in India, post the adoption of voluntary recall code by SIAM. Toyota states this recall to be a precautionary one and not a safety hazard in any way. This is not the first time Toyota has recalled vehicles in India. The company had recently recalled close to 40,000 units of the Etios due to leaks in fuel pipe.
