Legendary British SUV manufacturer, Land Rover recently launched the all new Range Rover. This new vehicle features many changes that make the car lighter, more efficient and extremely luxurious. But now information has surfaced about Range Rover’s 2014 line-up for the USA. One of the most important change is that they have ditched the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine in favour of a new supercharged V6 petrol engine for the base and HSE models.
Range Rover claims that this new engine is almost as powerful as the earlier engine but will increase the fuel efficiency as well as reduce CO2 emissions of the SUV. This engine is a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 motor which produces 340 HP of power and 450 Nm of torque. So this engine is 35 BHP and 50 Nm down on power and torque respectively over the V8 mill. But as the new Range Rover is around 400 kgs lighter than the outgoing one, the performance should not be affected drastically.
The V6 Range Rover does 0 to 100 km/hr in 7.1 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds slower than the V8 powered version. The fuel efficiency has gone up a notch though and Land Rover claims the 2014 Range Rover will deliver a fuel efficiency of 6.5 km/l in the city, about 9 km/l on highways with a combined figure of 7.2 km/l. The emissions too have been reduced by 22 percent. The higher spec Supercharged and Autobiography models will retain the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine. A stop-start system will be standard on all engines.
The other change to the 2014 Range Rover is addition of one new colour, Scotia Grey, and two earlier colours have been replaced by Corris Grey and Lorie Blue. However in India, the Range Rover will be offered with a Supercharged V8 petrol engine and V8 diesel engine, with a V6 diesel (TDV6) joining the line-up sometime later. The fourth generation Range Rover has received an astonishing response and the waiting list for the hyper SUV has stretched upto 1 year in some countries.
