KTM Duke 390 Spyshot

KTM had unveiled the performance oriented, Duke 200’s big brother, the Duke 390 at the 2012 EICMA show in Milan last year. The Duke 390 has been launched in UK and is expected to hit Indian shores in the month of June this year. The streetbike has been spotted testing recently in Pune and the spyshots reveal ABS sensor on the rear disc brake, Metzeler tyres, Bybre brakes, crankcase mounted oil filler cap with a changed head show. Apart from the changes, the Duke 390 looks similar to its younger sibling, Duke 200.

Bajaj Auto manufacturing KTM bikes in India results in heavy localization which helps the company price these motorcycles very aggressively. We can expect a price range between Rs. 2.3 – 2.5 lakhs for the 390 Duke, an estimated figure given by the KTM themselves. At that price point, it will shake up the segment offering strong performance and agile dynamics. The Duke 390 is being manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant and is already being exported to other international markets.

The instrument cluster picture of the spied 390 Duke shows a mileage of 38 km/l, which is hard to believe as the Duke 200 returns around 30 km/l. One can expect the 390 Duke to return 25 km/l in city riding conditions although while cruising on the highways, the mileage can increase a bit. The real time mileage indicator reading is said to vary drastically depending on throttle input.

The KTM Duke 390 is powered by a 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 373.2cc fuel injected engine with a DOHC layout. The engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 44 PS at 9500 RPM with 35 Nm of peak torque at 7250 RPM, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. As you can see from the spyshots, the bike features upside down front forks and a monoshock rear suspension. The Duke 390 will also be sharing some elements with the upcoming Pulsar 375, which is expected in 2014.
