Honda Amaze Diesel Revolution

Honda’s biggest product launch in India is undoubtedly going to be the Brio Sedan, aka Amaze, on the 11th of April. The Honda Amaze is the first diesel car from the Japanese company for India and the comany is leaving no stone unturned to ensure it’s a massive success. Honda on its part has already produced 10,000 units of the Amaze to ensure there is no waiting period for the vehicle in India. The company is also planning to run a bunch of offers like extended warranty, exchange offers and maintenance packages.

Honda has put up hoardings in major cities, which reads ‘The Diesel Revolution’. The Honda Amaze will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine which produces 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This output is the highest in the sub 4-metre compact sedan segment, where the Amaze will sit and rival the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire. An ARAI certified mileage of 25.8 km/l is delivered by Honda India’s maiden diesel car.

Honda will also offer the Amaze with a petrol engine which is the same one that does duty on the Brio hatchback. The 1.2-litre i-VTEC motor produces 88 PS and 109 Nm, mated to 5-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The company is expected to price the Amaze between Rs. 6-8 lakhs. If you are wondering why the Amaze wasn’t spotted on test in India and how Honda tested the engine then you should know that the company used the Brio hatchback to test the 1.5-litre oilburner. Honda is expected to launch the diesel powered Brio next year.
