2014 Mercedes Benz S Class Spyshot

Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a series of full-sized sedan, which defines luxury in a sophisticated manner. The flagship model from the German luxury carmaker’s stable was officially introduced to the world in 1972 and is currently running in its fifth generation. Whenever the Stuttgart based automaker starts feeling the heat from the competition, it comes up with a much advanced model of the S-Class series to conquer the luxury sedan segment, yet again. Currently the S-Class W221 is facing stiff competition from the likes of the BMW 7-Series, Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which is codenamed W222, will be unveiled officially next month (15th May), with the commencement of sales following later this year. The next generation S-Class has been spotted testing barely camouflaged ahead of its debut. Talking about the exteriors, Mercedes-Benz has sculpted the new S-Class in a sporty design language hinting some elements of the recently introduced CLA compact sedan. The sharp styling gives the S-Class a much aggressive stance over its predecessor with the rear end hinting some Maybach touches.

The interiors of the next generation S-Class were already revealed by the automaker which showcases new styling treatment with a host of technologically advanced features to lead the segment. The centre console boasts twin 12.3-inch infotainment screens, the ventilated seats get multi-program massage function and a choice of five different rear seat layouts including an executive seat with a backrest angle adjustable by up to 43.5 degrees. The upcoming S-Class gets ‘active perfuming system’, which, according to the automaker, neither changes the interior smell permanently, nor are perfume molecules deposited on fabric surfaces or clothing.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will come with an option of regular and long-wheelbase versions. The German automaker is also considering seven different body styles for the upcoming S-Class, including a convertible edition and a Coupe replacing the current CLS. The new S-Class will be powered by both diesel and petrol engines. A 4-cylinder diesel unit with several states of tune is planned and regular as well as AMG editions with V8 and V12 petrol engines will be offered, coupled to a 9-speed automatic transmission. We can expect the next generation S-Class to hit Indian roads next year.
