The fabled Nürburgring race track in Germany has been famous for its construction that avails the automakers to churn out the best of their vehicles. The track has claimed the best timings for almost every supercar in the world. However it sounds weird when you come to know that a 1.0-litre petrol engine is being tested on track deliberately to label it in supercars league. Curiously though, it’s not a common 1.0-litre petrol engine and it’s not fitted inside an ordinary architecture either.

We are talking about the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that Ford has installed in a F1 like architecture. Chris Harris, an automobile journalist from UK deemed a mind-boggling session on the vehicle at the Nürburgring track. For the boffins who like to mind even the diminutive seconds, FF1 reaches from 0-100 km/hr in less than 4 seconds and has recorded a 7.22 minutes lap time on the Nürburgring which is almost 3 seconds faster than the Ferrari Enzo!

2013 Ford Formula1 EcoBoost

Ford F1 features the same 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that will be soon driven on Indian roads with a power output of 123 BHP. The major modification that Ford has brought to the FF1 engine is the large turbocharger taken from the bigger 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine that has exploded the power to an insane 202 BHP. The engine mechanics are standard and no major alterations have been made to the powerplant other than turbocharger. The car weighs only 500 kgs and Ford claims the top speed is 254 km/hr.

Arguably the FF1 is the 11th fastest road legal vehicle listed in the Nürburgring track records. The most interesting part is the test vehicle is stalked with headlights, tail lights, indicators, rear view mirrors, license plate and rolls on street tyres. Ford has not confirmed about producing this vehicle for retail sale but apparently there are light chances to see this unusual design amusing the crowd on public roads.
