2014 Hyundai i10 Diesel

Monsoons are here and the next generation Hyundai i10 is enjoying the weather. The upcoming car (which is likely to be called Hyundai Grand i10) was spotted by us on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, near Lonavala. The vehicle was cruising along at a set speed which makes us believe that ARAI is doing its mileage test on the car. The Korean automaker is aiming for class leading mileage figures and is betting big on the upcoming 3-pot diesel unit which displaces 1.1-litre in capacity. This motor could make the new i10 the most fuel efficient car in India.

The next generation Hyundai i10 will co-exist with the current model and will be priced bang in between the current i10 and i20. Overtime, the i10 will fill in the shoes of the Santro, which although quite old, still manages to sell in decent numbers in the rural market. Last month Hyundai sold 4274 units of the Santro, while 8469 units of the i10 were sold. The Hyundai Grand i10 is sure to eat into i10 and i20 sales but Hyundai is happy as long as overall sales increase. The second generation i10 will be launched in India in the first week of August.

The 2014 Hyundai i10 will carry the company’s fluidic design elements on the exterior while being more generous in terms of space on the inside. Hyundai’s philosophy of giving more features at less price will be seen in the new car as well, with the company offering equipment unseen in this segment. Although globally the new model is pitched against the Volkswagen Up! and Skoda Citigo, in India the all new Hyundai i10 will rub shoulders with the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Toyota Etios.
