2013 Tata Indica Facelift

You might have lost count, so have we. Tata Motors has given the Indica yet another facelift, calling it the Model Year 2013 car. The updated Tata Indica gets dual tone ebony black and sahara beige interiors. The dashboard is finished in ebony black while the seats are sahara beige in colour. The centre console gets silver finishing (even the gear knob tip gets it) and the rear view mirrors get turn indicators on them and are now electrically adjustable. The front doors now have magazine pockets with bottle holders. The steering wheel is a 4-spoke unit and the audio system offers Bluetooth connectivity. These changes are similar to the ones seen on the Indigo eCS facelift.

On the outside, there are no changes except the chrome strip on the rear tail gate. Tata Motors has made minor mechanical changes which include the new Smart-shift gearbox and dual path suspension for a better drive experience, although we will have to rope in a cabbie to identify the difference. The standard warranty on the Tata Indica is 2-years/75,000 kms. The 2013 Tata Indica range starts at Rs. 3.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Tata Indica uses the same engines as before, which are two diesel motors. The Indica eV2 uses a BS4 compliant CR4 engine to produce 70 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque. The Indica V2 uses a BS3 compliant engine without a turbocharger producing 48.9 PS of power and 85 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to the new TA65 gearbox and the BS4 version returns a mileage of 25 km/l. The updated Indica is available in 4 colours – white, silver, blue and a new maroon (pictured here).

Tata Motors also unveiled the Indica emax, which is the CNG version of the Indica. The company will launch the Indica emax CNG in October, which returns a mileage of 23.71 km/kg. The CNG tank is 10 kgs in capacity while the petrol tank can hold 37-litres of fuel. The engine powering the Indica emax is a 1.2-litre MPFi unit producing 65 PS of power at 5000 RPM and 100 Nm of torque at 2700 RPM in petrol mode. In CNG mode, the Indica emax produces 56 PS of power at 5200 RPM and 90 Nm of torque at 2650 RPM.
