2014 Volkswagen Polo Spied

Volkswagen hasn’t updated the fifth generation Polo since it was launched in 2009. The German automaker put the new Polo on sale in the Indian market in 2010 and gave it minor updates in September 2012. However the mid-life facelift will only come next year, after a long five years. Thus the update won’t be a substantial one as Volkswagen is giving the Polo really minor changes before the sixth generation model arrives in 2015. The all new Volkswagen Polo is sure to give competitors a run for their money.

Volkswagen has already started testing the updated Polo in the United States of America (Death Valley in California, known for extremely hot temperatures). The spied vehicle features heavy camouflage so not much can be said about what lies beneath those duct tapes. However a new front-end is likely to feature an updated bumper, new headlights with LED daytime runnings lights, new foglamps and new grille. The rear might not get any changes at all but new alloy wheels might be added to the car.

The interiors of the 2014 Volkswagen Polo are well put together and thus changes aren’t going to be too vast inside the cabin. The dashboard might get minor improvements in the form of a new infotainment system, updated seats and additional equipment. What Volkswagen won’t address is the lack of space at the rear seat, which should be resolved only in the next generation model.

Powertrain options on the facelifted Polo are going to remain the same in India, except the 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre TDI units will be replaced by a new 1.5-litre EA189 diesel engine. This engine will produce 89 BHP in the regular Polo and 104 BHP in the Polo GT and Vento. Globally Volkswagen will bring the UP!’s 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine with turbocharging and direct injection to the petrol Polo. The 1.0-litre TSI motor will rival Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
