2014 Hero Xtreme

More pictures of the facelifted Hero Xtreme have reached us and there are a slew of updates which can be seen over the previous pictures which only displayed the front. The complete motorcycle shows a lot more change. Immediately noticeable is the new fatter rear tyre, new open chain case and the raised tail section which looks exactly like the one seen on the spied Karizma ZMR. The rear section seems to be inspired by EBR’s 1190 superbike.

On the instrument cluster we yet again see a brand new designed rev counter for the Hero Xtreme, which unfortunately looks like it’s been taken from the Honda CBR150R/CBR250R and the digital speedometer has been redesigned and made shorter than the previous version. The thick strips used around the instrument cluster are for the “transformer” look. Side panels too are sleeker than before.

What remains the same on the Xtreme is the ZMR like clip-on handle bars but they too are finished in a different colour. The new foot peg holder is much sharper with rubber-less foot pegs for both the pillion and rider. Gas charged shocks were already present and make it on the facelift. Like we said earlier, the earlier Xtreme had a engine belly fairing which is missing here. The alloy wheels carry the same design as before.

The Hero Xtreme does not need any of the above updates, all it needs is some weight to be shaved off. At 145 kgs, it is one of the heaviest 150cc motorcycles in the market. Even the Pulsar 150 weighs 143 kgs but has more power and torque. Switching to 17-inch wheels from the age old 18-inchers is the right thing to do as those offer much better dynamics with tyre experimenting options being far better which is good for people who tune their bikes in the search for more grip. If chassis is tuned properly, ride quality does not go for a toss which is visible in every bike which the Hero Xtreme competes with. The 2014 Hero Xtreme is a classic case of old wine in new bottle.
