Volkswagen Polo GT TDI Road Test

Volkswagen introduced the diesel-powered Polo GT TDI variant two months ago during the month of September. This is the country’s most powerful B+ segment hatchback and is now available at a chunky discount of Rs. 35,000/- at the dealerships. The fact that a car launched so recently is being offered at such a discounted price indicates the efforts of the company to prevent volumes of car sales from slipping furthermore.

Though Volkswagen has added new variants of the Polo including GT TSI, Cross Polo and GT TDI, the sales have not really picked up and is instead steadily slipping causing panic at the dealerships. Hence the dealers have resorted to offering discounts to ensure the car sells at any cost. The Polo variants in India witnessed a 7.5 percent decline in sales numbers last month. The Polo GT TDI has a heart made of a 1.6-litre TDI turbo diesel engine borrowed from the Vento. The car produces 104 BHP of power with a torque rating of 250 Nm.

The discounts for the Polo GT TDI include free insurance cover for 3 years, free 24×7 roadside assistance for 3 years, free 3rd year extended warranty scheme and a subsidized maintenance of the car for 3 years. This directly results in a lot of savings for the customers considering the costs involved in maintaining German cars. Alternatively, one can also opt for a cash discount of Rs. 25,000/- flat and also an additional exchange bonus of Rs. 10,000/- can be availed. This translates into savings amounting to Rs. 35,000/- outright. Volkswagen anticipates the increase of volume sales of the Polo GT TDI which shares the same features available on the Polo Highline TDI.
