2014 Fiat Linea Base Variant Spotted On Test

Fiat is trying everything possible to make its cars sell in India. While the Punto will be receiving a facelift soon and the Avventura will also enter the market in the near future, the automaker is doing every possible way to sell the Linea also. While the earlier Linea (Classic) got a major price cut when Fiat launched the 2014 Linea, it is now speculated that the company will be introducing a low-cost variant of the current Linea. This base model of the Linea might be slotted between the Linea and the Linea Classic or it might even replace the latter.

The model pictured here comes with black bumpers but it is highly unlikely that Fiat will not offer body-coloured bumpers on the base variant. We can expect black door handles and ORVMs though. The base variant will get basic steel rims instead of alloy wheels. The bare-basic theme is carried over to the interiors too. The dashboard comes devoid of any music player and even the steering wheel misses out on audio controls. Power windows might be offered only for the front passengers but we still need to wait to know the official specifications.

There won’t be any mechanical changes on the Linea base variant but we expect Fiat to offer only the 1.4-litre petrol engine with this model. This engine produces 89 BHP of power and 115 Nm of torque. A Turbojet version of this base variant does not seem likely but Fiat might offer the Multijet engine depending on how this vehicle is received by buyers. The Fiat Linea lags far behind rivals like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento when it comes to sales. While the Italian carmaker is doing its best to improve its after-sales network in India, there are various other factors too that affect the sales of vehicles from the Fiat stable.
