Pulsar 150 NS

Bajaj Auto will soon launch a sub-200cc Pulsar, which is nothing but the Pulsar 150 NS. The bike was recently spotted on test and careful analysis reveals this isn’t a Pulsar 180 NS. There were two bikes on test, the major differentiator between the two being the mudguard, one featured a normal mudguard seen on most commuter bikes while the other did not feature any but had an aluminium number plate holder identical to the one found on the 200 NS. The rest of the details remain the same in the two bikes and the Bajaj Pulsar 150 NS is likely to be unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo.

So why is it the Pulsar 150 NS and not the Pulsar 180 NS? Simple, it has a single seat, one piece grab rail, full chain case and drum brakes at the rear. Compared to the Pulsar 200 NS, the Pulsar 150 NS has smaller tyres, a smaller front disc brake and smaller callipers. What is interesting to note is that the bike features air-cooling fins but it is not an air-cooled motor as the radiator can be seen. This is a liquid-cooled bike and the Pulsar 150 NS will get a new powertrain with 4-valve technology. Triple spark plugs could also feature in the next generation Pulsar 150.

Don’t most 150cc bikes come with a rear disc brake and Bajaj Auto is known for offering feature rich bikes. Don’t be fooled by the drum brakes on the test mule as the Pulsar 200 NS was also spotted without a rear disc when the bike was spied on test. However Bajaj Auto did offer a rear disc brake as standard on the Pulsar 200 NS. So with the Pulsar 150 NS around the corner, what will Bajaj Auto’s Pulsar lineup look like? We feel the Pulsar 180 NS won’t be coming and the current Pulsar 150 and Pulsar 180 will be discontinued slowly. Thus the future Pulsar lineup will look like this – Pulsar 135 LS, Pulsar 150 NS, Pulsar 200 NS, Pulsar 200 SS, Pulsar 375 SS.

Bajaj Auto is sure to make some noise in the 150cc segment. The Pulsar 150 NS will feature 50:50 weight distribution and uses an underbelly exhaust. What is even better is the fact that the company is using a perimeter frame on this commuter bike. Now you can get your knee-down on your way to office.
